About This Community

A HISTORY OF CARING THAT SPANS CENTURIES – AND CONTINENTS

Villa St. Francis was founded in 1990 by the Felician Sisters, a religious order established in Warsaw, Poland in 1855 to meet the needs of the poor, the orphaned, the sick and the elderly. The Sisters first brought their ministry to Wisconsin in 1874 and have served the Milwaukee community since 1907. Their commitment to service can be found in many places throughout our city—from St. Francis Hospital, which they were instrumental in raising funds for in the 1950s, to the Child Development Center of St. Joseph, an early-education non-profit on Milwaukee’s south side.

Although the Sisters have a long history of providing acute care to the elderly through St. Mary’s at Felician Village (formerly St. Mary’s Home for the Aged) in Manitowoc and the Terrace at St. Francis (a nursing home that’s adjacent to our building) in the 1980s they came to realize that many seniors would benefit from a facility that offered the same level of compassion and commitment to those needing less help. The result: Villa St. Francis assisted living community.

Today, Villa St. Francis provides a caring, home-like living environment for more than 100 residents with a variety of care needs. Whether you are an independent senior looking for a minimal level of assistance and the camaraderie and support of a group living environment, or someone who needs help with a variety of activities of daily living, Villa St. Francis could be the perfect place for you to live life to the fullest.

Villa St Francis was OK, but I would have liked a more open concept. The rooms were kind of small, more like a nursing home. The staff was very knowledgeable, and the dining area was very nice. The residents were doing music while I was there.

I think Villa St. Francis was an excellent place. We have chosen it because it meets Mary's needs specifically. We have spoken to at least a dozen residents, and they all said they're happy that they're there. I am very pleased. It appeared to be managed very well. They took great care in caring for the residents and knew all the residents by name. There only had about 100 residents, but it fit Mary's needs perfectly.

They were able to accommodate my mother to family care and it meets her needs right now. Lisa, i can't remember her last name, the Director, was very friendly! She made accommodations for my mother and she got her settled in fairly quickly. She did what's needed to be done. She did everything and it seems to be a really nice place from what I could tell. The staff I've seen and talked with are all so very friendly and willing to help. The place feels homey. There's a little gift shop in there, the dining areas were all nice, they got recreation areas, they got plenty of activities scheduled for the people there. Their meal time is not one set time, there's like an hour and a half for you to come down to eat. Unlike where she was, you don't have to be there at a certain time, or you don't eat. If you don't like their meals you can take a light meal. They have a waiter come to the table and ask you what your choice is. Everything just seems more accommodating!
