About This Community

Brookdale Paris is an assisted living community for seniors located in Paris, Texas, about two hours northeast of Dallas. It caters to residents who are able to live independently but need assistance with day-to-day activities ranging from dressing and bathing to managing their medication.

FACILITIES AND AMENITIES

Brookdale Paris offers residents four distinct floor plans from which to choose; studio apartments, private and companion suites, and one-bedroom apartments. All are designed to allow residents to live as independently as possible, with kitchenettes, microwaves, sinks and window coverings. Couples are welcome, as are pets. Apartments come fully equipped with emergency response systems and modern fire and security systems.

In addition to private residences, the community has a recreation and activity room, a family room, a sunroom, outdoor gardening and gathering areas, a library and a dining area featuring home-cooked meals served restaurant-style. Residents also have access to a professionally trained staff, which is on-site around the clock. Housekeeping and personal laundry services are also available.

HEALTHCARE

In addition to help managing daily activities such as bathing, dressing and toileting, a professional nursing staff is on-site 24 hours a day to assist residents with any non-emergency health issues that arise. The community is also located across the street from CHRISTUS Dubuis Hospital of Paris; a 25-bed, long-term acute care center offering comprehensive health and wellness services.

HEALTH PROGRAMS

According to its website, Brookdale staff is focused on helping each resident find a balance between independence and assistance. Staff members provide residents with ambulation and escort services to and from appointments, personalized diabetic care, ongoing management and exercise and fitness programs. Experienced and knowledgeable dietitians also work with residents to ensure that meals and snacks meet their health needs. Residents are encouraged to participate in a variety of events and activities designed to keep them mentally, emotionally and physically sharp and healthy.

ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS

There isn’t a day that goes by at Brookdale Paris when residents don’t have a chance to participate in on-site activities and events. Featured activities include weekly exercise classes, karaoke, church services, educational seminars and arts and crafts sessions. Plus, the community regularly hosts celebrations of residents’ birthdays, anniversaries and holidays.

Residents can also explore the nearby city of Paris, which offers a variety of dining, entertainment, shopping and cultural attractions. Popular organized excursions include trips to the Sam Bell Maxey House Historic Site, the two-story former home of Mexican War veteran Sam Bell Maxey; the “Eiffel Tower,” a towering sculpture made from oil derricks and topped with a giant cowboy hat; and the Red River Valley Veterans Memorial.

We have found Paris Chalet. They were very friendly. It was a nice place. My husband moved in almost a week ago. It's assisted living. They're very friendly and caring. I really can't think of anything they can improve at this time. The staff is very good. Food is OK. They have games. They have a courtyard you can go out and sit out. They have a TV room and things like that. It's a nice place, it's more like a home than an institution.

My mother is in assisted living at Brookdale Paris. Their general care is good and doing what assisted living should do, so I am happy. The food is fine. I have eaten there, and she is satisfied with the food.

The staff that we met at Brookdale was pleasant. I liked the layout; the fact that it was one-story was important to me. Brookdale looked like a nice facility. Recommending them would be a consideration.

Sterling House was a wonderful place. I had a friend who worked with me in the court and she had lived there herself. Unfortunately, she died. She was the lady who went in for the court and asked residents how they were doing, what was going on and how things were -- their feedback was always positive. This lady loved it there. She went into that home herself. She was comfortable there. She went out and looked at other places but she came back to me and said that she liked Sterling House. I visited quite a few facilities because I work for the Lamar County Court, and we helped to place people. It was just a lovely place to be in, and their nurses were lovely people. The food was good. The upkeep was wonderful and it smelled clean. I think they all give the residents the freedom to do what they wanted to do. They have facilities for exercises if they were able. They had group singing and had all kinds of different activities. It was very good place.

I chose Sterling House because the price was right. They have some incentive and they have a very good menu. I have tried their food and it was very good. It seems that their services are of better quality. They have a few more services than some of the other facilities. They actually fit my parents' needs. The rooms are very good. They are very clean with fresh paint and fresh carpet. Also, Sterling House has a much cleaner front door appearance. It has good presentation when you walk in the door.

I've been at Sterling House of Paris for a visit, and it's a really nice facility. The staff are really helpful, seem very concerned, and professional, and as a matter of fact, this is one of our choices. When we went there, they were playing a game in the lobby. They also have a calendar posted with activities.
