We checked out The Village at Incarnate Word. I pretty much liked it. I liked the fact that they have the kitchen in a centralized area. They have a craft area, too. It's an older place and I feel like the rooms were small. There's no kitchen in the room, which is OK, but I liked the fact that they had different places to eat. I liked the layout. It had windows, so it's bright. It's next to the college and there's not a whole lot of places for somebody to be outside. It's off the street, so if you're looking for something to be outside and to do your walks, it was not that great. It's very clean.

The Village at Incarnate Word is a nice, Catholic community which is what Mom wanted. The staff is very nice, friendly, and helpful. They have crafts, exercise classes, and church classes. The food is very good. Mom is receiving very gentle and kind care there. It is a beautiful and established place. There are a lot of shaded trees with nice landscaping.

My aunt has been placed at The Village at Incarnate Word. It is a wonderful place. They have three levels of care. The nuns run the community, so it is a charity-run community. They have taken care of my aunt. They found her wandering around and helped her get around. When she got up in the middle of the night, they have shown her what to do, where to go and how to take care of things. They have been very, very supportive and energetic to help. Everybody there has just been very, very nice. My aunt has been there since July 14th. She has a living area with two bedrooms, so she has a sitting area, a bedroom, and a TV room. She does not have a kitchen facility in her unit.

My mother is a practicing Catholic, and that is the focus. The Village at Incarnate Word is a Catholic facility. They celebrate feast days, they have bible study, and they have mass daily. I know they have numerous other things as well. I would describe the facility as large, clean, and homey. From the moment I walked in, there was a real spirit about the place that made me feel like God was present, so that was awesome.

The Village was a really nice place. The staff was nice. They just didn’t have the room type that we needed at the time. The rooms were very, very nice. Some of them had been remodeled recently. They all faced out to a courtyard, and that was really, really pleasant. We did not try eating there but the food did smell good.
I believe they had bingo. They were a Catholic community, so they had mass and rosaries. They had exercises also and outings. They had good security. There was somebody at the reception desk 24 hours a day.

The Village at Incarnate Word is a small retirement community with ties to the Catholic faith. Despite the Catholic ties, the Village is open to residents of all faiths. It was originally founded by the Sisters of Charity and operates as a non-profit organization, so all funds are reinvested back into the community. The Village has a variety of fun exercise classes for residents plus scheduled activities, arts and crafts, and guest speakers. The individual I know who lived at the Village enjoyed their water exercise classes and their Sunday mass. Monthly rental fees are reasonable and they offer one and two bedroom housing units. There are no separate villas or detached condos. The Village offers skilled long-term nursing care for residents who need around the clock services. They also have a separate section of apartments for residents with Alzeheimers or dementia. Overall, the Village at Incarnate Word is a good choice if you're looking for an assisted living community with Catholic faith and quality care.
