We went and toured Deane Hill Place. They took us through the facility and showed us the different rooms. We sat down and we went through a brochure and talked about the different price levels and which one my mother would fit into. Their rooms matched pretty much all the facilities that we looked at. I don't think there was a major difference from one place to the next from what I saw. They're not fancy by any means, but they were clean in appearance. The person I spoke with was very accommodating. They were willing to help out with whatever I needed, and whatever questions I asked, they were able to answer them. They're very friendly. There's no perfect facility out there, but from what I saw, it was probably better than the average facility. I haven't tasted the food, but the dining area seemed very nice. The common spaces were nice. There seemed to be room for quite a few people there. There was a group of residents in one of the common rooms that were watching TV, and there was a calendar posted of all the activities for the month and it seemed quite full.

The rooms at Deane Hill Place assisted living were just way too small, and it's way too expensive for what you get. To me, it's like being in a hospital room that's big enough for a bed, a TV, a chair, and a bathroom. It's $3000 a month. The maintenance and upkeep are lacking. I noticed on the outside of the building that it had patios but the building was aged and it wasn't near as pretty as it was. They had set up a big room at the center of the building, it had a TV in it and people were sitting around in wheelchairs and stuff.
The staff that toured me was very nice and very efficient in her information. She knew from the first room I looked at that I wasn't interested. I just really went out of curiosity to see what it was like. First of all, I couldn't afford it, and even if I could, I wouldn't go there. That's what made me decide to just stay where I'm at and not even look anymore until I need that kind of place.
I didn't see the dining area and I didn't taste the food. The staff brought something from a restaurant and it wasn't even good. It just wasn't a good experience and it wasn't the fault of the girl that was showing me around. She did her job very well. I got information from her about some other things that helped me a lot. At the time, I was doing my will and my power of attorney and everything and through her, I found a place that disperses your estate like your belongings and stuff.

I wouldn't recommend Deane Hill Place. My experience is not good. The food is awful. They lied to us about a number of things. I'll be moving out of here as soon as possible. They have one nurse for four different buildings. There's hardly anyone around to get help from, but the staff that they have is great and the people are very nice. I don't eat the food. It's horrible. I buy my food and fix it myself. They told us it would be chef-prepared, but all it is is food that's brought in, heated up, and served. They told us there would be a menu to pick from and there would be different options that you could pick from if you didn't like them, that you could order something else and they would fix it, but that's not the case.
Maintenance comes, though they have to come back over and over again because they don't do it right the first time. There hasn't been any activity since I've been here. They need to improve their management. Nobody knows what anyone is doing here. They need to have more staff. They need to have at least one nurse for every building here, not one nurse for six buildings. I don't know of any amenities that they have. They have a big TV area where we can go out and sit, but I have my own TV. I wouldn't move your loved one in here for anything. It's not worth the money that they get, the care is not good, and they never order my medicine on time. When they took us on the tour, everything sounded great, but when we got in here, it wasn't.

We're looking at Deane Hill Place as our first choice and it's our only choice at this point. We had a really good interview with a gentleman who knew everything about the place. He explained many of the features that are there, which met our needs perfectly and memory care was a part of it. We're thankful that all the meals are provided and that there is assisted living offered, which I would need, and also with an extended memory care unit, it seemed to be a perfect match for our needs. The room was adequate for our needs. It was spacious enough for us to adapt to an institutional setting. It was more of a studio with an extra bedroom. They have multiple types depending on what you want. They have many services that are offered on the location that a senior adult would need. It seemed more than adequate. They had some very nice gardens, outdoor activities, and indoor activities. They have a social director who plans outings and all kinds of things.

Deane Hill Place is very attractive. It has a number of different outdoor areas with a lot of green trees. It certainly doesn't look like an institution. The person who assisted me was very professional and knowledgeable, and at the same time empathetic. He had very good questions, and answered my questions very well. I did not eat the food, but I saw the menu. One of the things I liked was they had a choice of two different meats or main servings. So for each meal, there are choices; I like that. I saw that they had a list of activities every day. There's a monthly calendar of activities. I could see that there were activities there that my sister would be interested in, and then some that she wouldn't be. I thought that was good. You know, every day had choices.

I went to Deane Hill Place. It's a very desirable living area for assisted living and probably memory care. I was shown every aspect of the units, and they're clean and comfortable, or at least sufficient for a patient. They're light and bright, they have good access to views of the outdoors, and for some they even provide little patios. All that is wonderful; the activities are just a bonus. The calendar of activities provides the seniors there with many things to do, lots of people to connect with, and a caring staff, some of whom have been on board for a long time. I thank Talbot and the tour in general for a good experience.

I've been very interested in Deane Hill Place. The manager was extremely helpful and very knowledgeable, and it has obviously been in the business for some time. It was an important thing to me that the manager seemed to really care about the people that were there and the property itself. I looked at one room, and he showed me the grounds, the properties, a couple of hallways, and the common area. The room I saw was a basic accommodation. It's a single room, but they had suites. It's an older property, but it's in a centralized location, which I think probably got the best thing going for it. It appeared well-kept.

Deane Hill Place has a facility that tries to recreate the character of the person. They have a simulation of kitchens for those who cook, but because it's a memory care home, it's not a real kitchen. They have them reflect on what they used to do. They also have workspaces for gardening for those who like to go out or used to garden. They ask for a history of what the person did and their hobbies, so they may do it during their activities time. They do many things to make sure that the residents keep their dignity and character. They also have courtyards for games. However, my father may have benefited more if he were in the assisted living section versus the memory care section because they treat them more independent in the memory care unit. There needs to be more interaction and they aren't as social. I love his apartment. It has a very spacious room and big windows. I like that there are rails in the restroom that you can hold on to and he has a choice to sit or stand in his shower. It's not a step-in shower, but an open floor with some drainage. They also have buttons in their rooms and the showers, so if there's anything that they need, they can quickly press the button and the staff will come running.

Deane Hill Place's website indicates that it's like staying at The Hilton and shows a beautiful room that's very clean and furnished. But that's misleading, because the actual room is not furnished and you provide your own furniture. For the price they charge, I would think that furniture would be included, particularly since most of them have to have a hospital bed. The website also doesn't indicate that you provide all your toiletry, and once again, I would have thought those are already included based on the cost. You only find out about it once you sign the papers. The place looks very clean and neat. They offer physical therapy, dances and shows for the residents, and activities like arts and crafts. They also have a gated common area and live in cottages instead of one building, with 13 residents to a cottage. It bothers me that they kept changing management. They indicated that they're improving the food and what I saw looked pretty good. The staff has turned over, but the ones I've worked with have been very good.

I was in Deane Hill Place. I have to congratulate them on the staff. They were excellent, but the guy that ran the place was a jerk, and some of the inmates were a little tough to live with. They had a Thursday afternoon wine get together which I went to once. That was the only organized activity that I knew of. They had an exercise room, and in the next building, they had physical therapy which was good.
The food was good. Breakfast at 7 is a little bit too early for me, and I don’t like eating dinner at 5 o’clock in the afternoon, which is what it was. My room was clean. I get 2 newspapers every day, and every day, somebody would steal them. Nobody ever said they could fix that.

It was a beautiful community which was one of the things that we were interested in. It was very nice, but it costs more money. They have a van to take you to shopping and doctor’s offices.

It was in a nice neighborhood. It was clean and nice. I felt the rooms were small. If I were going to stay in Knoxville, I would probably choose this place. It was probably in an upscale neighborhood. I thought it was good. The lady who showed me the place was helpful, and they were willing to negotiate a little bit on the price.

I chose it for my father because they allowed us to have his dog in the room. The staff is very friendly and patient with Dad because he is having a pretty hard adjustment. They are also encouraging and helpful. We have only been there a week, but so far, so good. The rooms are fine. They're good. My dad has the smallest studio apartment, but they have bigger ones available.

I've got my wife in here. She's in a wheelchair with Alzheimer's, and she can hardly do anything. The care is very good. The nurses are excellent. They help get her out of bed and give her a shower. She got hospice help in there now. They give her her medicine, they help her in her wheelchair, they push her in the dining room to eat, and they put her clothes on her. I've eaten with her a lot of times. The dining area is very nice, but their food, they have to mash it up for her. Where Fran is, they have a lot of gates on the building. You can't get out without an alarm going off. It's very nice outside, and then they have entertainment all the time. They had a live band this past summer in the courtyard. They are probably about as personable as you can be. She is on the main level, and it's only one level, so it makes it a lot easier for her to get in and out.

Everything was great. The staff was very good. The only issue was the room; they didn't have a large room. The dining room had a small family style kitchen. What impressed me most was the friendliness of the staff and the people.

Our visit was very nice. It was clean and taken care of nicely. They have several different types of rooms, which were normal types. They have lots of activities and are constantly doing stuff and playing games. They always have something to keep you busy.

My grandmother is now in here. We chose it because it is the one closest to us and is only about a 10-minute drive away. Also, it is one of the top-rated facilities here. The staff was really nice and sweet. They do a good job working with my grandmother. The rooms are a good size. She is in a small room size, but it is has plenty of space for her stuff, and she has a really large shower. They had activities like walking groups and meetings. They have somebody to do their nails and hair.

My in-laws has just moved in five weeks ago. The place is very nice. The staff has been very accommodating to my in-laws. My in-laws are also pleased with the food. Some of the residents have this blank look on their faces, but others look very happy being there. My in-laws, however, are very pleased with this facility.

Everything was clean and spacious. The outside area where they sat was really pretty. Everybody was helpful and friendly. We saw one room which was unoccupied at that time and it was pretty. They had activities and they took the residents to movies and little excursions. The eating area was clean and I liked that. The set-up seemed good but it was a little far from us.

The rooms available at this facility did not really fit what we had wished to find. They were on the small side though there was plenty of storage. The facility promises good care for those with dementia, something we are really looking for for our elderly family member. One thing we really did appreciate about the facility was the dining. The meals are not the average with no flavor and fewer choices. The worst thing about the facility, as a whole, was the location. We were looking for something closer to the Turkey Creek area for our family member and were disappointed. Over all, the facility is nice, even if the rooms are small, the staff seems pleasant and ready to help with the tasks that a family member would normally take care of. We really appreciated the fact that the staff is well versed in dementia and how to handle an independent person who just needed a "little" help.
