My mom is at Autumn Care; it is a private assisted living home. Even though my mother is deaf, she does activities like Bingo, balloon volleyball, they have a 30-minute video every morning with exercise for senior citizens, they have Bible devotions every morning and, about once a week, the patients that wish to go out shopping or out to eat, they have those activities also. They have special dinners for the residents and their family and neighbors, so that they can come in and have a meal together, like they've got one planned for September on Grandparents Day, and that is where the grandchildren or children can come and eat with them and socialize. I really got attached to some of the residents at Autumn Care. I think mother is very well-taken care of there, and their meals are wonderful. They do take good care of her. I just feel like it is not quite yet, but she is getting very close to where she needs a little more care than what she has there. But they are very observant about how she is, she is not stable, and she has had a couple of accidents while she is there that have required stitches that I don't blame the assisted living for. It is just the fact that she refuses to leave the walker all the time, and that is when the accidents occur. Her laundry is done, the rooms are kept clean, and the facility is very clean. You never smell an odor when you walk in. It is a very nice facility. I feel like I am very fortunate to have found it. I would recommend this assisted living place to anyone who has someone with the early stages of dementia that can't be by themselves. It is just a great facility, very clean, and very neat. The reason that I wouldn't give them a five is they have a tremendous turnover in their CNA's.

Autumn Care was also not equipped to handle my mother. My mother was not eating, and they felt like she could be forced to eat. Her doctor had already said, "Do what you think you need to do, but I really think that you are going to get what she needs at hospice." They felt like, "Well, we can get her to eat; we can force her to eat." No, I did not want my mother to be forced to do anything. The facility was nice, it was clean, and the director was fabulous. She really took a lot of time with us, and I think she really wanted to work everything out to help us, but she simply did not understand that my mother was more likely not going to eat, and I know that I would definitely not want her in a forced home situation.

Autumn Care Assisted Living was about two years old and it was clean, up-to-date and modern. The staff were very competent and nice. Both my parents lived there and they had different activities like bingo, current events and people came to entertain the residents. It was a very active community. The dining room was very nice though I haven't eaten there, but my parents seemed to like the food. They were happy there. Although it would be better it they had a service van that would take the residents to doctor's appointment and to the stores.
