Our visit to Chestnut Cottage and Carriage House at The Elms was nice. We got to meet the owner and also the director, I believe, of the facility. They were very informative and they told us about all of their services and everything. The staff was very nice. We saw quite a few of them, because at the time they were playing bingo with the residents, and everybody was very pleasant, and very engaged with the residents that were there. What was nice about it was it was small, so the residents were always visible no matter where you went. You could always see them, especially when they were in the community rooms, so that made it nice. It was cozy there. They have the same amenities as all of them, they provide laundry service, activities during the day, meals, and snacks. They also offer pet therapy, which is nice, and they also take them out on outings twice a week, and then every other Saturday.

I went to Chestnut Cottage and Carriage House at The Elms. I met with the executive director, and he was very knowledgeable and very personable. The place was homey and very comfortable. The biggest issue was there were very few private rooms available, so the question is whether dads gonna be able to get a private room or whether it would have to be semi-private, so that's one issue. They also have a fair amount of up front fees, community fee, and security deposit, so anybody that's not ready to write a $15,000 to $20,000 check right upfront, you're not gonna get in the door. That's a little bit frustrating, but it's a nice place, and I'm still considering it. They have other levels of care in the main house, but not at Chestnut Cottage and Carriage House. The activities were pretty individualized. They've got board games, arts and crafts, music, and field trips. The facility was nice, but it's 12-13 years old, so that's a factor.

I visited Chestnut Cottage & Carriage House at around 9:30 in the morning. I thought what was nice was that they had an optional time for breakfast. I also liked the fact that their rooms were furnished. Outdoors, their garden was very small. So, I would say that would be my favorite spot. Evidently, they took the residents on walks and, again, I felt the sidewalks were kind of narrow, and also you always needed someone with you while in the other place, you could be in the garden all by yourself.
I thought the place was quite clean. They do not have a neuropsychologist available right. They were looking to replace someone, and that I thought was a disadvantage at that time. You also had to bring your furniture.
