I visited the Barclay Friends. It was a very nice, small, intimate, and high-end facility. The staff was very pleasant and welcoming.

Maybe the care givers are good but as I searched for a place for my mother and possibly later, my stepfather, getting past the admissions was unbeleivable. I had heard not only about the admissions person from the rehab my mother was in but I herd the same from about 8 other people who assist in placing individuals that the particular individual one has to deal with is a bit strange. You cannot get a straight answer, vacancy or no vacancy, she speaks from both side of her mouth. I asked for a numder of what it would take for my parent to qualify and I was given a number in the mid 400k bracket, but I kept getting this that they don't qualify. no vacancy. But possibly if they qualified .When I pushed the issue I got a 600k number. My parents are in their 90's. The line about "Quaker" values does not apply. For 600k, I take it, there is a vacancy

Barclay Friends is a very nice place. The RN's are very upbeat and caring. I would say the majority of staff are very pleasant. My biggest concern is the cleanliness of patients rooms. I do not think the cleaning personal are cleaning properly. My loved one was a patient for several years and I am certain her room was never properly cleaned. I mentioned this several times to the nursing staff only to get the same response of they do not do a good job. As a person in business management I believe something should be changed and fixed to help these issues.

My husband’s uncle has been fortunate enough to be cared for at Barclay several times in the past year (but unfortunate enough to have fallen twice!), and my husband and I couldn’t be more happy with how he was treated. He’s a man with a plan, and he wanted to get well and get home, and he did – all the staff worked together so well, the nurses, the aides, Social Workers, therapists, everyone – it was a real team effort and they made his well-being matter to them as much as it matters to us.

Barclay Friends at that time has a long waiting list. Nevertheless, it would be the most convenient and the nicest one around where we live. The facility was really clean and nice-looking. For a place, it looked more like home, not so like a hospital.

After surgery, my husband went to Barclay Friends and they were wonderful for post-operative care. I liked the people who I saw when I went to visit. The helpers, the nurses and the aides had all been there a very long time. There was not much turnover and I liked best the interaction between the clients and the staff. They were kind and respectful of the clientele whether it was in the cafeteria, in the nursing section, or at the entrance desk, no matter what kind of condition the clients were in.

Barclay Friends was awesome. It was my first choice, but they could not hold a bed for my mother. It was a beautiful place. The staff was very informative, helpful, and very nice. It was in a location that my father was comfortable with.

If your loved one has Alzheimer's, this is NOT the place for them. The staff are in no way trained or interested in caring for residents with Alzheimer's. We had the absolute worst, most frustrating experience. If you are looking for a caring facility for a loved one, keep looking. The right place is out there, but it is NOT Barclay Friends.

They keep temporary rehab residents as long as possible, stretch out their care unnecessarily, do not get them up in the AM and basically treat them as part of the permanent residency. The Physical Therapy session is a social session for the employees. While (4) residents busied themselves with leg lifts, throwing bean bags, sit down bicycling and computer work - the "therapists" did not have their eyes on any of them but were talking to each other about getting out of work early, their education, other jobs, families etc. Head therapist was rude and in the wrong job. He told a patient leaving "you'll be back" because he didn't agree with his release. He also had him put away the groceries that arrived and walk a flight of fire escape steps - not a therapeutic or house setting, just looking for a person to fail. Extremely disappointed with Barclay Friends and if there were any intent to return, I wouldn't voice an opinion, for fear of bodily harm.

The staff was very pleasant both to my family when we visited as well as to my grandmother both when we were there and when we were not. They provided great care to her both in assisted living and then eventually in nursing care.

Barclay is a lovely facility. Everyone has a private room. Some residents have private baths and some share a bath with one other resident. There are enclosed flower and vegetable gardens, and walking paths. The menu is varied and the meals are delicious. The staffing ratio and staff turnover rate are low. Activities are dignified and age-appropriate. Fresh flower arrangements are placed throughout the building every week. If your loved one needs a nursing home, this is the one you want.

The admissions staff was extremely accomodating when my parents both needed rehab after being simultaneously hospitalized. They located a room they could share, and the staff was extremely pleasant and helpful, doing all they could to welcome them. The rehab staff people were extremely helpful and personable, encouraging them to work harder than I would have thought possible. After three weeks my parents were able to return home quite successfully.
