Food is just horrible. It used to be good, but it really an embarrassment to the residents to have outsiders see how bad it is. Don't expect from assisted living. The workers are good. The state laws prohibit some basic care and quality of life. The shortage of staff in this area leaves no time for personal attention. As the most expensive place in town, I would expect premium service.

We got my mother-in-law in a memory care program at Touchmark at Mt Bachelor Village. We are very comfortable with them. The staff are beautiful, very caring, and very friendly, and they are 100% for the people that live there. They work very hard because with dementia, you never know what's going to happen with them. She is very happy to be there, and she likes the people. They treat her with dignity, and that was a big issue that we have. If someone wants to go there, I would not hesitate at all. The rooms are a little on the small side. She has got quite a bit in her room -- a twin-sized bed, a big dresser, a table and a chair. They want the people to be out with the others. It's not a fancy bedroom, but it's very adequate, and the bathroom is very big. We did a tour of the kitchen, and we saw them fixing food. The dining room is very open, light, and it has a lot of windows so they can see outside to a patio. If the people don't want to eat inside, they can eat outside on the patio. It's very accommodating. They have all kinds of different activities and different games, and it depends on what the people want to do. Last weekend, they were doing a quilting show. They also have a doctor's assistant that comes once a month. Outside in the other area, they have a place where they do their toenails, and she just got a perm on her hair. They'll walk them in another building for the appointment and bring them back. The head nurse called us everyday the first week to let us know how she was doing. They bend over backwards. I have no issue except they're a little expensive, but you have to expect that.
