We went to Vitalia Senior Residences at Westlake. It was modern and very attractive looking. I met with the tour guide. She was very well-informed and seemed to know what we were looking for. We saw the calendar of what they offered in terms of activities and that includes taking people to a few places. And they have exercise, they have a movie theater, and they have a pool in the facility.

The overall residence of Vitalia Senior Residences at Westlake was very clean, it's attractive and beautiful. Also, they have three different levels of care within one facility, from independent, assisted living, to memory care, and sort of a higher level of skilled nursing. That's attractive because I would not have to move my parents to a different facility when their needs perhaps grow. They can easily stay in that one place and just change from like one floor, but at least they're still there together. And the goal was, to keep them together. My mom would be in assisted living, but my dad would need to go to memory care. The staff, Rachel, was excellent in answering all the different questions that I have about the different levels of care and going through all the different services that they provide, as well as detailed budget pricing. So that we would know what the investment of this level of care for my parents would be. It was not rushed. It was very attentive, and she wanted to make sure that I knew of all the different types of care that this institution would provide for my parents. What I find highly attractive is the restaurant, how they provide meals, is from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. You could order your food at any time, compared to other facilities that were like dinner's at 4:30 or 5:30 pm, breakfast is from 8:00 to 9:00 am. So having the flexibility works easier for my parents' lifestyle.

Joy
So far, Vitalia Senior Residences at Westlake is good. My mom has been there, and it took a little while for them to get their act together with the pills, like getting them to her the right time and all that, but I think that straightened out. Otherwise, I think everything's fine so far. They have a combined studio, which were two studios with the door in between, making it two rooms. It is actually bigger than a one-bedroom. My mom lived five minutes away from the place, so she's familiar with the area too. We had lunch there and the food was fine. They have this little bus that they use to take them shopping or to other places, like they went to a Chinese restaurant the other day. She's too new to be doing this, but they have a happy hour, people that come and sing, some entertainment out in the courtyard, and lots of activities. They're short on staff right now, but that's not just their problem, it's everybody's problem.

My mother recently passed away just shy of 98. The staff was heartbroken. We couldn’t have asked for better care, a more caring staff, and kinder fellow residents. Our only regret is that we didn’t move her there sooner.
