I went to Chapel Hill Community yesterday. It was impressive. I liked the freshness. The accommodations are extremely nice. It seems like they've covered a lot of the considerations as far as maintenance and available resources. The staff was very knowledgeable and was able to answer any questions I had. They do have a bus. They have a dining room and food available, that's an option. I understand that they have a movie night and have some kind of food accompanying that. They do allow pets, dogs. I have an acquaintance who's living there, and she happened to be in the dining room and I asked her about food, and let's just say it was OK. My only reservation is the cost. I'm not sure if it's the best deal for me.

My father is in Chapel Hill Community. I don't have anything good to say about it. They're very understaffed. The rooms are dirty. My dad does not get quick enough attention if he needs to use the restroom. It takes forever for them to get to him and he tries to go himself and not having the strength to get out of bed, he has already fallen once. The only thing that's clean looking in that building is the lobby when you first walk in the door. He was there for rehab, and he's still in the same room. He's waiting to get a better place somewhere else hopefully. I go four days a week. I rate them a 2 only because it has a roof over their heads and they feed them. They are understaffed, but there are a few good ones. The problem is you hardly ever see the same face twice. There's a lot of them, but not enough of them at once. His rehabilitation has been over for a couple of weeks now, and he's no longer even getting physical therapy. He's just kind of in waiting. Another family member is handling the bills. All I know is it's $300 a day to stay there in a private room and right now, my father cannot afford that. He either has to be moved to a semi-private room which he's not going to like or he has to be transferred out of there somewhere else, and he's not going to like that either. They should have a new administration.

The rooms are ok, but the level of care is subpar at best. The nurses have way too many patients and it takes up to 45 minutes to respond to a call. Thank goodness we haven’t had a true emergency. One evening my father resorted to yelling for help because no one was responding to the call button. Even after yelling for help twice, no one came to the room. Just disgraceful. They have limited activities. We have an iPad in the room set up to auto-answer. The staff routinely unplugs the iPad forcing us to try and contact the nurses station to plug it back in. There aren’t any phones in the room, so you can’t call our father. We were told get him a cell phone. Unreal. When you do call and try to speak to a nurse the phone just rings and rings. No one answers. In one case my father asked for his pain meds. and waited 2 hours for someone to come back into the room. The nurses work hard and try their best, but they are simply under staffed.

A handful of employees seem competent. The food is ALWAYS cold. Cannot get anyone to help with bathroom when needed. When you ask for something the response most of the time is sure and they leave the room and never return. They seem to be VERY short staffed. My mother was there for over a week and a half before she got a shower. Therapist spends a lot of therapy time not working with client but entering information in computer. The doctor that comes in is very rude. The list could go on, and on. Bottom line....this is an awful nursing home. NOT RECOMMENDED

My mother went from living at home to Chapel Hill for rehab after falling. She has dramatically deteriorated there and lost 20 pounds. The care is terrible and the place is filthily. She fell in the bathroom there, hit her head and lay in her urine while screaming for help for 20 some minutes. They never informed us until we called and only then did they send her out for a cat scan, which she is now in the hospital for. The Director Nursing is rude and does show and care or empathy. Good luck trying to reach anyone by phone. They are understaffed and the food is cold and indistinguishable. The Administrator does not seem to care how terrible the place is run either. We would not dare send my mom back there as it would mean certain inhumane death to her. I cannot describe enough how horrible the 2 weeks were that she has been in that terrible place. Do not go there if you care about your life and dignity!

I was treated very well. The meals were very good. The nurses, aides, and everyone treated me with respect. I recommend Chapel Hill to everyone because of their great care.

Therapy staff was exceptional for Mom even when she didn't want to participate. But some of the nursing staff and nursing aid's left you wondering why they work there.my Mom was total care due to stroke.and she would hit the call light and it would take 20-30 minutes sometimes for someone to help her. And when they did get a bedpan for her it was dirty .the place is filthy for a health care provider.there are some major issues with the staffing ratios per resident that really need to be addressed for safety .I was very disappointed with the place and first opportunity I moved Mom somewhere else.

My mom has been in Chapel Hill for four years now. It is my mom's friend who knows about it and chose it. We are happy about it. It think it has pleasant surroundings. I actually feel the people are caring and take a genuine interest in my mom and the family. She is in a shared room because she is on Medicaid. The room is fine and adequate. The food is kind of bland, but it think it is sufficient as far as the meal plan and everything goes. They have bingo. They have outside people come in and entertain. They have special activities throughout the year. The way they treat the people stands out to me.

My friend Barb was very pleased with everything at Chapel Hill. The food, the nurses, and the friends she made. She seemed to really improve with the therapy she received. She is doing much better and was able to go home because of the great care at Chapel Hill.

We found the charger for my husband's vac pump in the stuff that I picked up from the nursing home. He was sent, via ambulance, back to he hospital because the nursing home claimed that the pump wasn't working. In other words, they never had that pump connected while he was there! My husband messed his pants on the first day at the nursing home. Two nurse aides clean him up but never put on clean underwear and he was still without underwear when he returned to the hospital 48 hours later, even though two complete sets of clothes were delivered to the nursing home. The nursing home was late with every medication, at least by one hour. Several times, they indicated that they hadn’t received his pain medication from the pharmacy, so he once went 12 hours without receiving anything. My husband asked for a walker, but the nursing home said that they don’t have any walkers, just wheelchairs, so he was out of luck unless I delivered one myself. There was no physical therapy for the 48 hours he was at the nursing home, although the reason that he was sent to the nursing home rehab was for physical therapy. Antibiotics were to be administered via a port in his arm, with saline on a pole, but that never transpired. During the 48 hours that he was at the nursing home, all that he had to eat was a banana and a glass of orange juice, with no encouragement to eat more in the dining room or even in his room.

Chapel Hill is a really nice place, and everybody seemed happy there, but it's an older facility. The staff were fine. My friend's room is nice, and she has a roommate. She seems very happy there. I am not really familiar with their activities, but I know they have sing-alongs.

My Mom was there for 10 days rehab and they only gave her a shower one time. When we asked them to give her one they told us they did not have time. When we told them we were moving her to another facility, they told the other facility that it would take them 5 days to get the paperwork ready. It only takes one day. This is not a good place for long term placement

THe facility was understafffed, unclean and very unorgainized. There was 1 nurse for 15 patients on the floor that my grandmother was on. All the employees looked very stressed out. Patients seemed not to be taken well care of. However, the nursing staff was very friendly and did answer any questions that were asked.
