Thanking Hanna in admissions (the navigator) and Lianah, Social services Dir. as to all staff. They do a tremendous job, caring, thoughtful and helpful. The facility is super clean, the food is great. From the time you enter the facility your greeted warmly at the front desk, the Doctors and nurses keep you updated regularly, my family member was always clean and well groomed, as well as, the rooms and outside areas. My brother received both Covid shots while there. Overall, a place of very high standards. Thank you, God Bless everyone at Margret Tiez. Cecil Pitts.

This is a review of the rehab department of the Margaret Thietz facility. In Jamaika, Queens. My friend has been there for weeks now. She is a diabetic which is known to the staff there. Yet she had been given orange juice and chocolate as well as chocolate chip cookies. Not surprisingly, her blood sugar has been consistently high. The facility now has at least two Covid cases yet one staff member tild my friend that she refuses to be vaccinated. Why is that staff member working with a vulnerable population? She is endangering those whose care are entrusted to her and the home. I am appalled.

There is absolutely no transparency. Virtually no one returns calls despite numerous messages. My elderly mother is simply not getting the professional medical attention she needs. They take tests (EKG, X-ray) and never let us know the results. I have been trying to reach nurses/drs for 2 weeks without a single returned call. Even the head of the institution does not return calls. There is very little warmth and understanding for the patient's needs. Sometimes as little TLC is all that is needed. There is no schedule or information when the patient asks. They never know what each day will entail. It's a lovely lobby. Rooms are tiny and they transfer patients from room to room with no explanations as to why. If you have a choice to go to any other facility I would strongly recommend you do that.

My families experience with Margaret Teitz was unfortunate. We are a family who sticks together. When my father was at Meadow Park we were there all the time and the care from the nurses and therapists was top notch. It was too bad they were full. My father was placed at Margaret Teitz for rehab after hip surgery. He came out of Margaret Teitz far worse than when he went in. When he was brought home his nails were overgrown and dirty, he was unshaven, very thin, had bed sores, and couldn't life his neck. For him to have bed sores it means the nurses were doing their basic job. Skin integrity in a basic. A home P.T. said his neck muscles had attrophied from lack of exercise. And other kickers are he was not returned the documented clothes he went in there with, the staff said he could walk (he could not even bare weight!), and he was sent home with someone else's discharge papers! They didn't even have the courtesy to return phone calls about his missing clothes. This place is shameful. I would never again allow someone I care about to go to this facility.

My grandmother is in Margaret Tietz Rehab. They have a family room where you can go and be quiet. We went out, and it was nice because it had an enclosed balcony area where you're looking out at the tops of the trees. My grandmother seems OK and looks like she is taken care of; her nails had been freshly painted. She's dressed, clean, and comfortable. Her room seems clean and has a bed and a TV in front of her bed. The bathroom seems clean, and she has a nice view because the window is very large and takes up a whole wall. It's a nice place.

This facility is not equipped to handle spinal cord injury patients and definitely too understaffed to be considered for anyone whose parent or grandparent is unable to walk. Being in a diaper is difficult for anyone. The staff would leave me in my wheelchair wet unable to get 2 persons to transfer me to my bed. There were many times I would urinate through everything and onto the floor. I was not allowed a shower bath until my third week caused constant infections both skin and urinary. The bathing was also only 2x a week. It is humiliating to live with such minimal hygiene. The food is eatable but is very high calorie and sugar filled. The menu consisted of hot dogs, french fries, pastas and rice dishes. The soups were not very good and I found meal worms in the cream of wheat (which I made sure got back to the Rabbi). One of their long term patients had blood sugar over 500. I had to explain to him he should not be drinking any of the juices. They were too sweet and came from a soda fountain. Why weren't the staff managing his diabetes? I cannot fault the CNAs for any of it. They were all given 15 or more persons, which I later found out is above the state guidelines. They were always short staffed and did the best they could in a rushed fashion. There were more than a few occasions that there was only 1 nurse per floor administering medicine. Therefore medications were sometimes an hour and a half later or 3 hours earlier than they should be administered. The therapists would line up 5 wheelchairs and have us do exercises all in a row. They would claim to give an hour or therapy but in reality giving attention for a fraction of that time. Do not be fooled by the advertising. The facility is not a great place to recover from severe injury and there are too few reviews out there because the people who go there do not speak of the trauma. I will never recover my opinion of nursing homes thanks to Margaret Tietz. They took my dignity away for an entire month and slowed my recovery because they tried hard to crush my spirit.

I did not like Margaret Tietz. It’s very old, and it may have been clean, but it didn’t seem clean to me because it needs updating. The information I received when I came in was good, but the staff on the floor wasn’t really helpful. The room my relative was in was shared, small, and felt almost like a hospital room.

I was in Margaret Tietz once and it was very nice. I don't particularly like the area because it's very populated and very low income. Anyone I know who has been there or knows someone there has very good things to say about it.

For anyone contemplating sending a loved one to Margaret Tietz, let me start by saying, no place is perfect, and Tietz is no exception to that rule. It's like pulling teeth to get doctors and nurses to do anything they are supposed to do. When you walk in, they encourage you to take a tour. They are all sweet during your tour and you can ask them anything, but it is a completely different story when your loved one is admitted. If you must send someone here, keep your eyes wide open. Don't assume they are going to be attentive to your loved one once you leave, as I did. The nursing staff is easily offended if you ask them a question more than once or want to know why something isn't done. Being nice to them didn't help. Getting angry didn't help. My father, Martin Weissman, was very sick and needed more monitoring. Dr. Reddy, Mr. Weissman's doctor, kept going on vacation and we couldn't get hold of him. What really killed my father, however, was their overdosing him on coumadin, by their own admission. It took at least three days to get the bleeding under control, and he died shortly after that. Enough rambling, I think you get the idea. I wish everybody taking care of someone they love the very best of luck!
