About This Community

This is senior living like you’ve never seen it before. Where people remain connected to each other and fully engaged in the things they enjoy. Nestled in a developed, walkable area and designed to bring people together, First & Main of Metro Health Village is a warm, upscale living environment that is well-connected, active, and modern.

From assisted living suites to advanced memory care, First & Main supports the lifestyle you want, provides the security you need, and preserves the dignity you deserve.

Steps away from Metro Health Hospital and dozens of health and wellness specialists, First & Main is fully integrated into the beautiful Metro Health Village campus. Conveniently located at the intersection of M-6 and US-131, minutes east of I-196, it’s an easy drive to First & Main from Grand Rapids—and nearly anywhere else in West Michigan.

The Village Square is the center of public life at First & Main. Organized around beautiful indoor and outdoor social spaces, First & Main's unique design captures the energy and convenience of a town center, with places to eat, shop, and enjoy life with friends. Spaces are lively and modern, flooded with natural light and dotted with courtyards, atriums, and nooks to rest and relax.

Facades designed to recall the residential architecture of a city boulevard welcome residents in to enjoy a meal at a restaurant, worship in the chapel, catch a film in the theater, and chat with friends by the fire in the 24-hour bistro. You’ll find residents gathered on the porch of the salon or relaxing with a book by the fountain. From group classes in the fitness center to buddies tinkering on a project in the wood shop, life happens along the streets of the Village Square.

Through the Square and into the Courtyard, you’ll find gardens and pools for meditation or reflection, a greenhouse, community gardens—even a putting green. Winding paths invite residents to enjoy a walk, and benches beckon walkers to pause, soak in the sun, or read in the shade of a tree. Beyond the Courtyard, patios for the restaurant and bistro connect First & Main to the surrounding neighborhood, providing additional outdoor space to gather with friends and enjoy all that senior life has to offer.

Keeping you connected.

Technology integrates seamlessly into First & Main. Every corner of First & Main is washed with a powerful WiFi signal, so residents and their families are free to use their tablets anywhere they wish to communicate using Skype or email.

Additional technology makes daily life easier and richer for residents:

Radio Frequency Wristbands (RFID) – Residents of First & Main don't have to worry about fumbling with or forgetting their keys. These digitally encoded wristbands easily unlock a resident's suite, providing convenience, security, and peace of mind.

Digital Signage – Throughout the social spaces of First & Main, digital signage keeps residents informed about upcoming events, shows them the forecast, and displays photos of them enjoying community events with friends. It’s Never Too Late Software (IN2L) – IN2L is an intuitive touchscreen software platform that encourages the pursuit of lifelong passions and the exploration of new ones. Residents can play trivia, virtually tour their hometowns, or listen to vintage radio shows.

Behind the scenes, residents benefit from First & Main's advanced care technology:

PointClickCare Electronic Health Records (EHR) – Beginning with a resident’s initial assessment, this sophisticated system keeps a detailed electronic record of the health of a resident. This information is available to the resident’s physician at any time.

PointClickCare Electronic Medication Management Records (EMAR) – Accuracy and accountability are essential in managing a resident’s medication. This system follows physician’s orders exactly and automatically orders refills. QuietCare – Early detection can dramatically improve long-term health. This nearly invisible technology learns a resident’s patterns and alerts care staff when that pattern changes significantly. Sharing this information with the resident’s physician and family allows for proactive measures.

Real-time Location Services Pendant – These pendants provide residents with additional security and peace of mind. With the press of a button they can alert the staff and summon help to their exact location.

I had a very nice tour experience at American House Wyoming. They offered me lunch and so I had lunch with my tour guide. The food was excellent and the service was excellent. It's a much larger facility than the other one I toured, there were 3-4 stories, but it didn't feel large. I felt that there was a nice degree of care there. It's an older facility so it didn't have some of the architectural amenities that I experienced at the other place, but it's certainly very competently run with lots of nice opportunities for the residents. The rooms were fine. They weren't as up-to- date, so I would say they're more typical. The place was very clean and there was a lot of staff running around doing things. The staff who gave the tour was very gracious, very informative, and followed up with me several times. She offered to do a video tour for my mom since my mom lives about 300 miles away. I saw the dining room, I saw the theater, and the interior courtyard since the building is built around the courtyard, which was nice. And some group sessions were going on and in some of the larger meeting spaces, group activities were happening.

My husband was in American House Wyoming. They had a lot of social activities, a lot of opportunities to meet other people and get together. It's kind of like living in a hotel, so it's not so much like a nursing home. And there are people living there who really don't need to be, but they're living there with their spouse. And there were a good number of men there. The response time was poor, he had to wait sometimes half an hour for somebody to come when he called. Some of the staff were really great, some were not. There's a lot of people that were not trained. They're low staffed. He was very unhappy with the food. They have two dining rooms, the one he was in the food and the service and everything was poor. When he was directed to the other one, which is right near the kitchen, it was somewhat better because the food was hot coming right from the kitchen, and they had a little bit more variety, I think. They had a lot of offerings, a lot of them he wasn't that interested in. They tried to get a lot of people involved.

We are very displeased with the whole place. They are short staffed, do not distribute meds like promised, it is dirty(carpets are filthy), we had to clean the room ourselves because no one deep cleans, they forget to tell our family member when meals are being served ( has memory issues), essentials are not provided on regular basis (tissue, toilet paper, etc), meals are not that great either. Management promises a lot and doesn’t follow through. Activities are promised but either they don’t happen or change the time and place plus they do not remind the residents and because of poor memory and poor hearing they are left alone in their rooms.

We like the American House Wyoming. We've heard pretty good things about the staff. My mom-in-law's room is very nice. It is a studio apartment, but it has a full kitchen and a bathroom. Everything is super new and nice in the whole facility. Their meals are good, but communication, like giving updates don't happen that much. The overall facility is definitely nice. I must say they treat her well.

First & Main of Metro Health Village was multilevel. We went up to the second level, and it was pretty big. They had cottages that could be leased lining the street that it was on. The meal we had was very good. The place is clean. We were there during the midday meal, and it was really busy. They had a lot of activities going on. It was well done. I was impressed with it, and it felt homey. It was surrounded by businesses that would be complementary to an assisted living home. There was an optometrist, dental office, and an exercise center surrounding it. It was very complete in that regard.

First & Main of Metro Health Village assisted living was good and clean. The person who was supposed to give us the tour wasn't there so we got a quick tour by somebody at the front desk. They had one dining area on each floor. They had an activity room and a movie theater. They had an open court area in the middle of the building. The rooms were nice, but didn't have a lot of windows.

First & Main of Metro Health Village was a very nice place, but we couldn't afford it. My mother could go in and get care from registered nurses or LPNs and have three meals a day. They had housekeeping and activities and they've got very nice people. We saw the activity rooms.
