Moved my neighbor in and it has been a scary situation since. No nurse on staff ever; not sure why, give me a number to call the nurse? leave multiple messages, no staff calls back. He always smells and they say showers are twice a week if they have enough staff? $5,000 a month and showers if they have staff? No water in his cup in his room ever; I refill it every time as he’s in a wheelchair; elderly need hydration. No sheets on his bed and little interactions with staff to engage him. I visit weekly and complain but new staff daily look at you like you are the problem. If I could move him out tomorrow I would. It is not the place that was described. I worry about his care and well-being.

I did a tour of American House Kentwood. It seems very clean and organized. The people seem very friendly, but the thing that I liked least about it was the fact that the room was very small, and it didn't have in-room bath facilities. It was a community bathing or shower, where I don't think that my mother would not be comfortable with that situation.
The staff was very friendly, professional, and very informative. She even gave me more information on other facilities, which she didn't have to, but she gave me some other suggestions for me to research and look into. She was very, very helpful.
The dining room was clean and pleasant. She offered me a brochure with all the information in it because it seemed like it was going to take kind of a tight schedule, and because she had another tour waiting.
The room was very small, but it didn't provide a private bathing facility. That's what has turned me off. It discouraged me because I didn't think that particular room would be pleasing to my mom. It just wasn't enough room. They showed me a room in my price range that we were looking at and it just wasn't adequate for her.
It was homey. It looked like it was well kept, and the property was well maintained.

The staff of Cobblestone is excellent, caring, and compassionate. They treat the residents as if they were family. The rooms are very pleasant and the activities provided are very enjoyable. The bus outings are always varied and fun. My husband lived in Cobblestone for 3 years and received wonderful care and loved living here.

American House Kentwood was dark, dingy, and cold. The bedrooms were very dark, had very small window, no natural light, and the decorations were old and dated. It was less expensive than the others, but it wasn't worth the savings. I didn't see many amenities. There was no TV in the TV room, and there was no lobby or sitting area. I saw a dining room that was dark, dingy and old. The gentleman that I met with was not impressive. He wasn't excited about selling me anything.

We picked American House Kentwood. We have the paperwork going, and we’re moving Mother in next Monday. It’s clean and the rooms look fine. They take Medicare waivers because my mother has limited funds and I know she’s going to run out. The person in charge is very helpful. He has been in contact with us several times through email and by phone to make sure we can transition my mother there with as least disruption as possible. So far, we’re very happy with that. We did walk through the facility; it seemed adequate. Everything that they are telling us seems fine.
