I went to Anthology of Troy. This was a high-class place. When you walked in, it was elegant. That was like the regular assisted living and such, and then you went into the memory care part, and it was the same as the assisted living with the same set-up building. It was clean, cheerful, and elegant. The staff were very nice. They seemed very attentive. They were great. They seemed to have activities going on, and they're right next to a dog park, which for my mother would interest her. If she couldn't be at the dog park, she would be able to watch the people and their dogs, which is equally as enjoyable. They had it all. They had the gym. They had a nice courtyard. They do activities with them. They've got a weekly sheet of what they do every day, and it seemed to be pretty active. In terms of location, for me, I live in Troy, so it's close. It's a very lively area.

I toured both assisted living and memory care at the Anthology of Troy. They also came out to my house and did an assessment on my mother to decide where she needed to be. They wanted to see whether she needed memory care or assisted living. The place is absolutely beautiful and very clean. The people that work there were super helpful and very nice. All the residents were really friendly, and there seemed to be a lot of activity. I very rarely saw anybody in their room. It was in a square. They put the cafe, dining room, and everything in the middle. It's secure, and all the rooms are on the perimeter. I don't know much about the building of these buildings. I thought it was smart that a patient who possibly "got lost," can't get lost if they keep just going straight. It's not like a maze of hallways, and I think that's actually very intuitive for a memory care. A shared room is an option; they would just share a bathroom. They still have their own space, and then there's also private rooms. It just depends on what you can afford. They had a salon, and I think they have doctors that come, as well as O.T. It is very full service. One of the things that I appreciated is even though I didn't select them, they were very gracious and were extremely helpful. They gave me all my paperwork back and made me feel very safe about the information that I had disclosed to them.

There should be a rating for BASIC CARE. (the most important piece in looking for assisted living/memory care). Most of the care staff seem like kind people. However, a core care staff seem to work really hard and the rest seem like slackers, seen sitting around not engaging with residents (with the exception of meals). Phones should not be allowed while working. Brief changes are not happening in a timely manner. Did everyone receive Memory Care training? Do they practice what they learned? Stressing gentleness and patience. All our relatives visit enough to see what's really going on there. For the money, you think CARE would be great! I'd add that the rooms are nice with high ceilings, which gives the feeling of spaciousness. Some of the activities are ok. Most of the people in Memory Care look bored though. It's not very lively. My grandmother loves live sing-alongs to old music, or even to old American patriot songs. It does wonders.
