My grandfather was a resident of this facility for almost three months. When he arrived the only issue he had was he couldn’t walk well. His legs would give out after walking a short distance, now he is dead and was black and blue at his funeral but he was supposed to have had a sitter 24/7. I am disgusted with these people and this place. The staff was disrespectful and rude to him and me when I visited. They told me he was nonverbal which was not true. He was very verbal! They were supposed to be doing physical therapy with him but that obviously wasn’t something they had time for! They are a disgrace an if you don’t want to hate yourself don’t leave a loved one there. They should be shut down and not allowed to watch a dog much less a loved one.

My father died in the care of Highlands 11 days ago and not only did they NOT contact me as his daughter, but they won’t release his medical records to me or the funeral home. AND they called the wrong number and gave his private medical information to a complete stranger. After that person notified them that they had the wrong number, they still did not attempt to call me! Do not send your loved ones to this nursing home!

There is a hopelessness I felt as a resident at this facility. I tried to discuss important issues like.... 1. Giving out wrong medications 2. Nurses so short staffed that they do not give residents insulin injection is a common occurrence. 3. The rude and disrespectful way the staff (nurses, cna's) speak with residents. 4. Routinely running out of patients medicines and not re-ordering in time to prevent them going without it for days at a time. 5. Not repairing broken wheelchairs commode seats window leaks loose tiles, exposed wires and the list goes on and on.

Seniority Has Its' Fun
Highlands Health and Rehab Center is a great facility with a caring staff and an overall great working team. They continually strive to give the best care for their resident's and have a great staff of people that really care. I highly recommend this place in the heart of the Highlands to anyone seeking short or long term care.

Horrible place. The staff is overworked, from the aides to the maintenance guy. The place is falling apart, with whole parts of the building sweltering hot because they too cheap to fix the AC, even in manager's offices. They can't keep people, again from floor to management, specifically because everyone is so overworked and poorly paid. They can't even keep up with their own record-keeping because the paper/training and all that is more than one person can handle. Over all, I'd say this facility is so bad because they have no support from this "corporate" thing they constantly complain about.

Facility Needing help

My family member was just placed there and the place is terrible. The beds are manual cracking and was no remote for the tv, had to ask for a it. He couldn't hear it from the other side of the room anyway. The cleaning is very poor along with the staff that are Rudy and neglectful. It. took 20 minutes to have someone answer our call light. Can't wait for a bed to open at any other facility. Reported to the management, their aware. Will post again when improvement is noted.

the place is dirty and tiles missing from the floors. The clothes are lost or stolen from the laundry. They do not provide nutritional menus for diabetics. They are given a regular diet and then over medicated with insulin drugs to off set the poor nutritional provisions, i.e., chocolate, pies, pastas, white breads, sugar sweeten drinks, awful. The sugar is out of control and the insulin can only do so much. Then when the hands, feet, arms and legs are in terrible shape they give them pain shots directly into the extremeties so maybe the resident can sleep.

This nursing home is absolutely horrible. Its unclean and gloomy upon first glance. The residents do not get sufficient attention. Call lights stay on for hours at a time because no one wants to take 5 minutes to go change a resident. Nurses and cnas close the doors of residents rooms when they are yelling for help rather than doing anything simple to fix the problem. The majority of the staff is either lazy or rude. Im a caretaker for a resident who has lived here for a few years. Ive been working for her for 1 and a half. In this time her care has not improved despite many many complaints. It takes hours to get anyone to change her. When I get here in the mornings her bed is soaked with urine as are her clothes, they dont change her before getting her up for breakfast. When I change her bedding they complain saying I didnt do it right, but at least I did it at all when that isnt my job. The rooms are kept dirty and cluttered but impersonal. The walls and floors are shades of white. There is no warmth. No one here is inclined to care for people. They are obviously here for a paycheck, not to make a positive difference in anyones life. I would NEVER put anyone in a home like this.

My 70 year old grandma tells me that this place is fantastic. As I am not a resident I cannot be 100% sure about what goes on, but I hear from her 2-3 times per week. She tells me that the caregivers are friendly, they check on her regularly, and that the place has a good vibe. I was a little uneasy about putting her in there, but she makes me feel good about the decision. I have visited her quite a few times. It smeels good, she has a nice room, and the food is very tasty. They give her independance while still helping her, and know each resident well. I reccomend this to everyone who reads this.
