My mother was at The Springs at Stony Brook for about 3 weeks. During the Covid, you couldn't go and visit when you wanted to and when she came home, I had to take her right back to the hospital because in that 3 weeks her blood count was down. She was severely dehydrated, she had bed sores on her butt and she was really under nourished. I don't know if it was because nobody paid attention that she was eating everything or drinking anything, but everybody's got their hands forward this Covid stuff. I wasn't pleased with what happened. I even had to pay a $2900 just to hold a bed for between the time she went there for a night and the next day they sent her back to the hospital with a stroke, so then I held that bed there for a week. From the hospital, she went to Springs at Stony Brook for 3 weeks. Then when she came home, she was in that condition, so she was back to the hospital again, but this time from leaving the hospital I decided to bring her home. She was just pretty bad. Also while mom was in the hospital I asked if hospice would evaluate her there and they said, "Yes, it's probably best." I don't think they did a very good job. I wasn't very happy about it. When somebody is in there and is weak, I think they need to observe if they are eating or they are drinking. I know everybody don't have a lot of time, but a lot of times I could hear the staff staying in the hallways talking about themselves when they could have spent the time checking just sitting or standing and watching that residents are eating and they're drinking, keeping themselves nourished. The facility was a brand-new and it was a year old. I thought it was a good place.
