I did a tour of Charter Senior Living of Poplar Creek, and I liked them. It's a smaller community. It was just for private pay, so it was a little over the price point for our budget. The appearance of the place was extremely good. It was like walking into someone's house; it's super clean. I met with one of the directors. She was really friendly and had a lot of information. She answered all my questions, and everybody I met there were just extremely nice. When I was there, there was a group of women playing cards in one of the lobby areas. The rooms are very functional. They come in a studio or a 1-bedroom. The models that I saw were extremely clean and well-deocrated. If that would have been an appropriate budget choice, I would have put my dad there.

I toured Charter Senior Living of Poplar Creek, the one in Hoffman Estates. I thought they had a very clean environment and I like the dining area. We were thinking of moving my mom there for a month on respite, but it turned out she was okay being at home by herself. She had broken her wrist and we were just thinking of having her there for a short time but we ended up not needing it. I toured the assisted living and I liked the room. The pricing to me was high, though. As far as the facility goes, it was clean and the lady I talked to explained everything. For the respite care, the minimum was a month so I really would have no choice but to put her there for a month, at least. The staff we met was very informative and answered all my questions. She's so professional. The facility was very clean and the outside was well-maintained and landscaped.

My sister is at Charter Senior Living of Poplar Creek. The level of care is still questionable for now, the staffing seems to be short, and the waiting period for a response seems long. We are still evaluating, but we had a conference with the executive director and the head of nursing, and changes are to be made to address her needs. She got a one-bedroom apartment, but they also had an option for a studio. They have a garden, a lobby area for gathering, a good-sized cafeteria, sidewalks around the facility, and so there's an opportunity for people to go outside. They do have a library and a beauty salon too.

I'm planning to move into Charter Senior Living of Poplar Creek by April 16. It's a newer facility, and the rooms are fine. The thing that's an issue for me -- because I'm in a wheelchair -- is the bathrooms are varied. Some of the rooms have a lip going into the shower, which is not good for a wheelchair, and some of them don't. The places were very nice, the staff was very good, and the way they checked with me was very nice. The dining area was fine for me -- definitely OK. Everything looks good there. They have everything spaced nicely, and the dining room is very open. I was surprised how nicely they checked your temperature and did all of those COVID restrictions before you even came into the main lobby, so they caught you when you came in between those double doors. That's a nice space. When you come in you see right away there's a concierge, and you can already see the eating facility and huge day rooms. It's open. There are no small, little rooms, and then there's a library. They interviewed me in the library. I did get interviewed by a nurse, and I've gone back twice so far. They're being very thorough with my doctors. Everybody is being vaccinated now. This was fine for what I needed.

My father has been here. He is there for assisted living with memory care. We haven't had the best experience. He hasn't received the level of care that we thought was going to be provided, especially considering the cost. He has a nice room. We are happy with the room because it has a small refrigerator and a very nice bathroom. He really doesn't participate in many of the activities that are provided there. The residents watch movies together and sometimes do arts and crafts, but nothing very male-oriented. They have a small screened-in patio that you can sit on during the warmer months. They changed owners and it is now Charter Senior Living. I would say that 50% of the staff is very receptive and very patient. However, they're having trouble with the doorbell, so they often don't know when we're waiting to come inside. They also have a lockdown feature at night for the entire community, so we can't just visit whenever we want.

The woman who took us for the tour couldn’t have been nicer. She showed us everything, and they went far and beyond, so we were very happy with this community. The rooms were very nice. It is somewhere we would definitely put my father when it comes time to do it. They were doing crafts and have lots of activities every day like exercise classes.

I really like this community. It seemed they have activities and things going on. The room seemed nice. It looked nice. They were maintaining the building.
