The Hearth at Tuxis Pond had wonderful services. It was more of a medical community and they have different levels of care. It was very, very pretty. I liked it the best. It's just my mother wasn't at that point yet of downsizing. She was going from a two-bedroom to a single bedroom, so she wasn't sure of how she could move her stuff, but I think their facilities were outstanding. They have a physical therapy room in the complex, which I thought was amazing, and they had what looked like a lot of activities for the residents.

The rooms at The Hearth at Tuxis Pond weren’t quite as nice as the ones in Branford. I saw different rooms, and there wasn’t anything about them that impressed me anymore than the place in Branford, but they were perhaps just as good. So I thought that if I live in Madison, I would probably have chosen this facility. Living in Branford, I chose the one I did. The rooms were a combination of single and shared rooms, and I didn’t really get a good impression. I didn’t care for the shapes of the rooms quite as much as the one that we ended up for my mother. The staff was very nice and very pleasant.

The Hearth was excellent and wonderful. The rooms were medium-sized, carpeted, and well cared for. They were very clean. The residents were very happy, and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. They were going to do chair aerobics when I was there. I saw the exercise room, a separate dining room for private parties and a lunch room.

My dad began his residency in the "assisted living" apartments at The Hearth in Madison in 2009 when he could not longer stay by himself in his home. He enjoyed his apartment and his meals and the friendly staff as he participated in their daily activities. Within 18 months, dad's dementia disease had increased and he needed to be moved to the secure wing at The Hearth, called The Keepsake. The Director and Nurses made this a very easy move for everyone. My dad is very happy and content at Keepsake. He enjoys the entertainment and he enjoys the friendliness of the staff who greet him daily - which makes him smile. Our family receives updates on his medical and health conditions as well as how he performs at mealtime. If there any concerns, our family is notified immediately and there is a discussion and recommendation for procedure. I have found that communication with every staff member, nurses, or the Director to be very open and helpful on every occasion. The Director and the Wellness Nurse" have been very involved with our family to provide dad with equipment necessary for him to be comfortable at the Hearth. All of the staff is very professional in their caring of dad and they work together to assist him in dressing, walking, showering and his bathroom care. I am very impressed with all of the staff when I visit, as they exhibit patience, understanding and team work to give dad the opportunity to be comfortable. I commend each staff member as they work with the different levels of Alzheimers while maintaining the individual respect for their patients to continue their lives within assisted living facility. We recently enjoyed a family celebration at The Hearth for Dad's Birthday - many of the staff stopped by to wish Dad a Happy Birthday and to meet the family and tell us how special our dad. I feel that Dad is continuing to have the best care from the staff at the Hearth and I appreciate all of their efforts to keep eyes on dad, communicate with the family about his health, and to provide excellent care for our father, maintaining his stable environment and to enjoy my dad as an important patient in their assisted living / secured site.

The living area in the apartments are in an L-shape, and the bedrooms are in the corner, so it seemed spacious. I know they have activities because they've invited us to several of them, like book signings by local authors. The Hearth at Tuxis Pond seems to be in a nice setting in downtown Madison. There's a fireplace in the reception area. It's kind of smaller, but it seemed like a cozy atmosphere.

We just signed the lease for The Hearth. It was not as bright and sunny as another facility we visited. It didn't feel as caring and open. However, the other facility didn't have any apartments available but this had. The administration people seemed very nice but they didn't seem to have any activities during that time. It has a city style setting.

My grandmother belongs to the hearth after the hard decision to move her out of her home. She suffers from Alzheimer's and her memory is rapidly degrading. When we were looking for places that she would like, we came across "The Hearth" in Madison, CT. It's a nice facility that has some outstanding nurses and nice people that facilitate most of the needs of the people that live there. The food is pretty good (I've been there and stayed for dinner a few times), and the living spaces are pretty large compared to other places I've seen. Some of the people there are affected much more by the dementia than my grandmother as she is still very physically active and likes to talk to people. She had trouble adjusting to The Hearth at first, but after a few months they made her feel right at home and she actually prefers to be there. Our only complaint is that my grandma is quite stubborn and refuses to take showers, and the nurses and aids at The Hearth don't really make her take them. Part of their job is to make sure that the people living there are hygienic. In turn, my mother has to go down to Madison and convince my grandmother to take a shower (which is a difficult task.)

Along with its sister facility in Branford, this is the best assisted living facility along the shoreline. Hands down. Everything is well-run and professional. The residents are treated as unique individuals and are cared for and monitored accordingly. I highly recommend this facility.
