Porter Place claims to be a memory care faculty, but clearly is not trained in Dementia or Alzheimer care. Our mother, with advanced dementia was a resident there. As her dementia progressed with personality changes and other difficulties, rather than understanding and diverting the behaviors, they complained amongst one another and to us every time we visited. There were caregivers there that definitely let it be known they did not want to care for her. They were understaffed, appeared stressed most the time and clearly didn’t have the patience for memory care. Her hygiene suffered and she had frequent UTI’s, several falls and they constantly tried to have dosages in her medication increased to make her more docile. Thankfully her doctor refused these requests with concerns of more falls. Our mother eventually ended up in the hospital with failing physical health, was moved to a long term care facility and passed away. I would never recommend this facility, especially for memory care.

Satisfied Daughter-in-Law

My mother-in-law has been in Porter Place for two months. The overall experience was favorable but not perfect as there are things that have to be straightened out. It is OK, though. The food is good, I think. The atmosphere is much quieter than some of other places we visited. It seems like there is low activity compared to some other places we visited, but it seems orderly and quiet which is what my mother-in-law wanted. The room is slightly bigger than average, but the bath is not as well fitted for a person who needs assisted living. It is not a walk-in shower but more like a walk-in bath, and so my mother-in-law has to lift her feet a bit. I got her a sliding chair so that she could get into the bath, but that has been difficult. However, she chose that room because it has a gorgeous view. It is on the fifth floor and has a beautiful view of the Rocky Mountains. The atmosphere seems OK. My mother-in-law is getting her pills and medications from them and some help with bathing. I did have an issue with them only doing it once a week, but according to them, she is the one who is declining the help when they come the second time. So we have some things we’re still working out since she has only been there eight weeks.

to be honest, this facility is not the greatest! Big turnover in staff, except a few gossiping, clicks. The facility is old, needs to be cleaned and remodeled. The food is not the best, and doesn't appear very healthy. Short staffed, underpaid and not very qualified. Would not trust this place with my loved ones! Look elsewhere.

My mom and I toured a number of places in the Denver area. This was, by far, her favorite. All the residents seem very happy when I go visit (which is often, now that she loves there!) All of the apartments have kitchens, however the Alzheimer's unit rooms do not (which is good, as it would not be safe at all!) They have studio, 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom plans for regular assisted living. The memory care rooms are smaller, which is good for those folks. They eat in a separate dining room, so it's less overwhelming for the residents. My mother is now is the secure memory care (Alz) unit. The staff is always friendly, helpful and caring. It is very clean (recently remodeled and they are about to redo the other wing as well.) My mom adjusted fairly quickly and easily to her new environment. This is a larger facility with many, many options and activities (on site and off) for its residents. I HIGHLY recommend this facility.

Porter Place is very close to my house and it's a very nice place. It was more of the location that I get to choose this facility as well as the staff. We were informed with the activities, but he really wasn’t interested with the activities. Everything is going well so far.

Porter Place was very dated, with just small and old apartments with no kitchen. It didn't have a very cheerful atmosphere. It was just not very desirable. I didn't feel comfortable with it when I toured the place. I wouldn't recommend it.
