We visited Arbor Palms of Anaheim. I was particularly impressed with the staff and their professionalism and friendliness. There was a wonderful community director named Lori, and she was just extremely knowledgeable and very empathetic. The rooms were nice. The kitchen area and the common areas were clean and nicely furnished. The residents all seemed content and happy. There were several different activities going on while we were there. The rooms come empty, except for an armoire if they don't have a closet. If they have a closet, then they are completely empty. You have to bring everything. There was a courtyard. There were some memory care indoor and outdoor areas where they could just wander. They were all locked. They would provide three meals a day. It was clean and nice. It was everything I would expect.

I toured Arbor Palms of Anaheim. It's probably an independent living or assisted living type of facility. I don't know for sure but it seems they just added in the memory care. They took one part of the building and made a long hallway and activities rooms into a memory care area. But the one thing that I felt the most negative about it was that where my cousin is at now, every room has a bathroom, a toilet, and a sink, and then there are 2-3 rooms on each floor that are for the showers alone. But here, every bedroom had a shower as well as a toilet and a sink. But the problem with that is if he decides to go shower, clothes on or not, and slips and falls, nobody would know it until somebody checks on him until dinner. He could bleed out on the bathroom floor; I felt that was very dangerous. That potential accident is so easy to happen. I saw a bar in the shower, so they have places to hold, but people with dementia don't think about that or remember to use that. Because of the long hallway, when somebody comes out of their room to go find the activities or the other people, they'd have to know which way to go down the hallway and that's the second thing that's wrong with me. The staff seems nice, and the people that I've seen living there seem comfortable, friendly, and happy. There was a door from the activities areas that take you to a hallway going over the assisted living area. They had their laundry room; from what they're telling me, the price was comparable, although it seems hard to narrow down exactly what add-ons there was gonna be. That was kind of confusing. They were very nice at the front entrance and they have their mailboxes inside. The staff that was working with the memory care residents seemed very friendly and good; there were only 3 of them. I don't know how well-staffed up they were, but I think they said there were 30 people in the memory care area and 3 seemed a low number for that many. It's an old building that's about 40 years old.

The rooms at Arbor Palms of Anaheim were bigger, but weren't as nice as the others. I saw a number of common rooms, TV room, memory care room, and little garden area, and they were all quite nice. It seemed well run and clean. The staff interacted with their residents nicely.
