I liked the staff and the facilities at American Village. The location was not the best. I think that was one of the deciding factors. It's near the inner city of Indianapolis, and we would rather have something up further north. They have a salon, a gym, and a library. It looks out over a lake. It had a very nice view. The place was very clean.

My dad has been in the Lincoln Lodge area of the American Village. It's the independent living apartments of American Village. They have nice spacious rooms because he has a two-bedroom, two bathroom. Very friendly staff as well. The food was decent there, I've had a couple of meals there, and they have lots of senior activities, outings, and trips. The residents are friendly. They do like light housekeeping. They do his laundry as well. It's very clean. It's close to my house, and for him it was nice because it was literally around the corner from the Meijer's, so it was just good for him to be close to the store. They have a recreation room, a media room like a movie room, and an activities center. They have a nice variety of food.

My mother is in American Village and she is in the Lincoln Lodge area, which is an independent living area. She's been there almost five years now. It's very unique in that all of the residents live in their individual apartments, but they have group activities and group meals. It's a very comfortable living situation. Every single staff person is dedicated, committed, and involved. They all know every resident. It's very much a family type atmosphere there. My mom loves the meals. For my taste, I prefer a little healthier fare. I'm much more a health-conscious eater, but my mom absolutely loves the food there. When she first moved there, she had a lot more mobility. Her main complaint was there were so many things she wanted to do that she didn't have enough time to do them all. They have everything from bingo, painting, exercise classes, and group movie events. Just last Thursday, they had a live musical event where musicians came in and played music. It's a very wide variety of activities. It's very reasonable for the money that you spend because all of your expenses are included. They even have two days a week where they will provide transportation to appointments. Now that we are no longer under quarantine, they have regular visits to Myer and Kmart. They will take you just to about any place that you actually need to go.

My cousin loves it at American Village, it's very nice and they were wonderful. Their apartments are very nice, all the utilities are paid, and the food is good. The staff is very, very kind and very personable. It's a very good situation for her. She's in what's called independent living, although all her meals are provided and they give everybody a medical necklace and they check on everyone twice a day. I was just talking with her on the phone and she's very happy. She had known somebody whose parents are there at the American Village and so she already knew a little bit about it and that helped a lot.

We chose to go to American Village because we really felt drawn to it. What stood out to me is the friendliness of the staff and the actual caring by staff. Everyone there knew all of the names of everyone that lived there. The property is well-maintained, the apartment has just been remodeled, and it was just a perfect fit. They have daily exercise and yoga, and there are people who come in periodically who do other types of activities. My mom has done watercolors and drumming.

She was in American Village in independent, and we moved her to the memory care unit. There are like 20 people that are in her unit. They have a separate dining area, then they have a big general room where they come in, and they do activities in there. They have a TV in there, they play bingo, and when the other sections of the buildings have something, they can go to that also, but mainly they stay right in their area. They have a nursing station, and she's in just one big room that is large enough to have a bed. It's just a couch in there, and she has a closet. They have a small refrigerator, a sink, and a shower. The staff seems to be treating her very well; the food looks OK. They could use more help, since everybody there has Alzheimer's and dementia, and they usually have one nurse and two CNAs.
