About This Community
Home Instead is a non-medical provider of personal care, companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, errands, incidental transportation and even Alzheimer's and dementia care. Our CAREGivers encourage, assist, and stimulate our clients in a variety of activities that improve their quality of life and help them maintain their independence. All of these services allow a senior to stay HOME INSTEAD for a longer period of time.
Home Instead - Caregiver Skills
Safety training on home safety, avoiding injury and falls, preventing strain and pain, safety in the kitchen, cautious cleaning, safe driving, outdoor safety hazards, and disease protection and prevention.
Basic training on emergency situations including stroke, falls and fractures and sudden illness, communication tips including communicating to those with dementia or Alzheimer's, activities for seniors to engage in, mealtime preparations, housekeeping tips, signs of abuse, and tips on reducing caregiver stress.
Advanced training on understanding senior illnesses and conditions, depression in seniors, caregiver stress, in-home exercise for older adults, making mealtime fun, communication tips with the senior, their family, and the caregiver's franchise office.
Activity training including reminiscing activities, modifying activities, activities in facilities, adapting activities for those with impairments, different types of engaging activities for older adults such as gardening, mind builders, and crafts and hobbies, and getting a senior involved in the community in places like senior centers, worship services, volunteering and errands.

I was sincerely disappointed at the way we were treated. Less than 48 hrs before 24 hr care was to start, the community relations person requested that we pay for services in full by bank draft or a credit card. She received a deposit of almost one third of the full cost and the scheduler had sent the schedule for the week. Her explanation was she had a brain fog and they could not provide services unless I paid in full for the week. It was a breach of the contract and unprofessional. I was shocked because I had worked with Melinda for weeks to get everything in place. I am the primary caregiver for my mother and a breast cancer survivor who requested the services so I could address my healthcare needs. It is important that all parties have integrity in their speech and actions.

This is a great organization. They are very accommodating when schedules change. Our caregiver is the best. She’s attentive and knows how to work with dementia patients. We absolutely love her.

We are so pleased with our experience with Home Instead! From the first interaction with Kinzie to meeting Melinda, Haley and the caregivers, what a blessing! Kinzie was so knowledgable and uunderstanding from our first phone call. She was kind and professional. Melinda felt like family when she walked in the door and sweet Haley is so bright and cheerful. Home Instead provides care for my mom with dementia. They help her with hygiene and keeping her active. Any concerns we have had been addressed immediately.

I am so impressed with the loving care provided by Home Instead Senior Care of Charleston. I needed care for my parents ASAP. In one phone call, I spoke to Kenzie, had all my questions answered, and she sent someone to meet me and my parents within an hour. Within three hours of that meeting, we had an absolutely amazing caregiver at the door! I called three other companies and they couldn’t even get out to meet me until the next week! We continue to have care and we are so happy with the office staff and caregivers. I feel like they truly love my mom and dad.

Thank you so much! We are enjoying life much more thanks to Home Instead Senior Care. The staff is amazing, punctual, and eager to learn “your way” of doing things around the house. My Granny tries to act like she doesn’t need any help, but deep down I know that she enjoys having meals prepared for her, having laundry done for her and just having some company over. My Granny wants to stay in her home forever and Home Instead Senior Care is allowing us to do so without breaking the bank. Thanks again!

Our Home Instead caregiver provides mostly companionship for our senior. She always arrives on time to take over care of our charge and soon they are off to the hairdresser, lunch and maybe a short ride before returning home. At that time, we have a chance to interact with the caregiver while she tells us about their day.
When our caregiver is unable to come to us, Home Instead always makes every effort to have a replacement fill in for every aspect of our senior's care for those hours that day.

I have had such a wonderful experience with this company, they are consistent with the car they provide, I know who is coming to my home and what time they will arrive. They help me get to the grocery store and the bank when I need to go. They help me to my doctor's appointments. I have a wonderful doll face Ann who also listen's to me and coordinates my care.

Home Instead Senior Care is an amazing company! The CAREGivers are kind and professional and the staff at the office goes above and beyond to make sure your loved one is receiving the best care possible! We use Home Instead for my Nana with dementia. Home Instead has improved her quality of life and we feel so safe leaving her in their care. Highly recommend this company for your senior care needs!

We had to stop using this company because they took my dad for fast food almost every day despite our continued communications with the company that he needed to be on a low sodium diet due to a heart condition. They also had caregivers cancel on us last minute without providing a replacement.

We have two caregivers that take care of my brother now. They are both kind and attentive. One of them never gets off her cell phone, but she does meet my brother's basic needs. The other one is attentive to my brother during the entire shift.

There were some good caretakers from Home Instead, and there were also caretakers that were not good. I had them for probably 4 months and they send one person a week. They help with laundry, meals, and things like that. The price was fair.

Home Instead caregivers have been taking care of my mother for almost two years. I am so thankful to have found Home Instead. Mother's two caregivers, Sandi and Ida, are angels. They are conscientious as well as considerate and always wanting the best for mother.
