We used Interim Grass Valley for almost ten years for the 24/7/365 care of my disabled brother. He was blind, used a wheelchair, and had some developmental issues.
There were some fits and starts, and some caregivers were just not up to the task of caring for him. We eventually ended up with a great team. And that was what it was - caregivers, management, and our private case manager. Current management is so easy to work with and is very responsive. I can't say it was like that in the beginning. The local management change was welcomed. (The only time we had to deal with the main office, they reacted quickly to our issue.)
My brother needed help with everything - less in the beginning, but more as time went by. We had quarterly "team meetings" to brainstorm and discuss. Some of the most helpful adaptive additions were suggested by caregivers.
Despite his limitations my brother loved going out - to concerts, plays, movies, meals, and coffee. The caregivers would get him to all the events that I bought tickets for and even suggest things he might like to do. We introduced opera and accordion music to a couple caregivers.
The three caregivers that we had at the time of my brother's passing were awesome. One of them had been with him from the beginning. Another grew from two-hour fill-in help to a really great full-time caregiver.
Having hired caregivers ourselves (and it turning out badly) I really feel using an agency is the way to go. They screen the caregivers and try hard to match skills and personalities. We were very happy working with Interim.
