About This Community
Our goal is to help you achieve your maximum level of physical, social, mental, and spiritual well-being. Through Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy, we provide a wide variety of activities to stimulate your interests and ability to heal. We work with you at your own pace so that you get back to a life of independence as quickly and safely as possible.

Our Physical Therapists work with individuals to increase mobility after a stroke and improve muscle tone through personalized exercise programs. These hands-on experts focus on results-oriented programming to help individuals continue to enjoy active and healthy lifestyles.

The major focus of Occupational Therapy is re-training individuals with injuries or debilitating conditions in basic living skills, such as dressing, bathing, and homemaking. Individuals learn energy conservation techniques as well as the correct use of adaptive equipment so that they regain confidence and independence.

The Speech Pathologists assess and treat individuals who experience communication and swallowing difficulties. After evaluating the individual's speech, language/communication and cognitive/thinking/reasoning skills, they work to enhance or restore the highest possible level of function and ability.

Physically, Reformed Presbyterian Home is in an older part of North Hill or the north side. I haven't been there in 45 years, but it seems it's in a bit run-down area. The building was built in 1891, I believe parts of it, and then newer sections were built in the 1980s. So, it's an older facility and it's run by the Presbyterians. It's been around for a long time. It's an adequate place, but I'm just a little nervous just because of the area it's in. It's hard to get to because of the old roads, and the area is sort of rundown. But still, it's not too bad. The people have been pretty nice. It's on multi-tiered levels because it's sort of sitting on the side of a hill. The prices are pretty reasonable, as far as that kind of thing goes. The only problem for my brother would be access, and this is sort of a lot of ways back from where we were looking. Overall, I think they did a pretty good job of presenting it. Julie gave us the information. She did a really good job. We weren't there at lunchtime, so we didn’t see what was going on there for that. The facility was clean, just sort of worn, that's all. I think it'd be more like just upgrading things like painting the walls and maybe putting some more carpet and things like that. Their dining rooms pretty. Their like any other place, they like to give tours and stuff and help people.

The Upper Rooms is a newly built twenty-six unit complex that is located just behind the Reformed Presbertarian Home on Perrysville Ave on the North Side of town. All new appliances including a glasstop stove, refrigerator and central air & heat. There are handicap & assisted care living and nursing home facilities. Nursing care and housekeeping for those who are unable to do so for themselves. There is a cafe on the newest addition as well as a barber/beauty shoppe on the premises and a beautiful patio complete with tables chairs and benches. There is a full service laundry room and a community room with a computer and television. The bus takes the patrons out twice a week to the mall and supermarkets. It is conveniently located on the Perrysville bus line which is accessible to downtown Pittsburgh within minutes. I have been a resident since June, there may have been a few insignicant gliches but they have been addressed quickly. The smaller community makes it an ideal place to live. I would give it a ten rating it is one of the best.
