This housing is in towers in northeast DC, a complex that takes up one whole block. All the living spaces are senior apartments, subsidized by HUD, and residents must meet low-income level requirements. The place is well managed and clean. The housing is very secure"”and management is very strict about who is allowed as a resident: no children or other family members. Fort Lincoln is strictly for seniors who can no longer live in their homes, but cannot afford to live in some of the pricier living places. For those who need assistance with care, Medicaid and other government programs will help pay for aides; there are no caregivers onsite. There is a lobby area"”and a meal delivery option served in the common dining room. There are some activities onsite and a few things aimed at having the residents engaged and involved"”to Wal-Mart and the casinos. There is also the opportunity for some who live there to get involved in the residents council. One potential drawback: Those who do need more care than is available here will have to move.
