New Perspective is glorious and aesthetically beautiful. I could live there. We observed very professional care and very high standard of cleanliness. It's very quiet, everything was impeccable, and done very nicely. Everything was very warm and inviting. There were also chandeliers. You walk in and you do not feel like you're entering a senior home at all. Every room has a kitchenette and the rooms were very generous in size and had high ceilings, so they felt very roomy. They may have the biggest rooms of any place we looked at, but they're expensive. They had a saltwater pool and a very large therapy pool. When you walk in, there were lots of windows everywhere. It's very light and it had high ceilings.

I came to New Perspective because a friend of mine was coming here and I loved it when I got here. I like the atmosphere and cleanlimess. They have so many amenities and a much bigger wellness center/exercise room. They have a pub where you can get two free drinks a day, but I just go there for socialization and have soda. There are a lot of activities here. The staff is wonderful. We have a bistro and we can always substitute if we don't want what's on the menu. They have a bus tour three days a week to a library or to shopping at Wal-Mart, Target or Walgreen's. It's just a little bit too expensive.

I also visited Lighthouse, but you had to pay a fee of $3000 initially that would cover the different programs that they had like trips. Their facility was very nice, but it was not something my sister would have been interested in. You could smoke there too, but you have to go out beyond the side walk, and my sister would not have considered that. The rooms were excellent; very spacious. The bathrooms have grab bars, they had sliding doors which were much more convenient than having to open a door going to the bathroom or coming from your bedroom; it was just easier to slide a door. Their kitchen was beautiful with granite counter tops.

Lighthouse is a wonderful place to live, but I wish I could afford it. It’s a lot more expensive than some of the other ones. It’s got a pub where they can go, have a few drinks, and watch TV. It’s got a bistro that you can go in and eat, and it’s open to the public, so other people from outside come as well. They have a swimming pool and a recreational room. They have PT, OT, and speech therapy. They have art classes and wood working. The dining area is beautiful, you can order from the menu, and they have waitresses. It looks very well cared for. All the residents have a bracelet that they can push the button on it if they need help, and they have a nurse on duty 24hours. The community is very nice; it’s like a hotel. It’s a very good place!

My mother has only been at Lighthouse of Sun Prairie for two weeks, which is fine so far. It's too fancy, but they do have a lot of different amenities that the residents could use to stay active and fit mentally. They have general daily activities like Bingo. They have computers that residents use and others with Brain Train software. They do field trips sometimes weekly in the area. They also take residents out into the regular assisted living part. They have music and an exercise pool. They have a little café and bar area. I had the food once there, and it wasn't anything special, but it was fine. The caregivers are better able to manage her. I have a lot more trust in them than other facilities that I looked at.

Betty's Harbor:beautiful state of the art facility without care/knowledge to back up the beauty! Food is delicious but mealtime is not supervised, food not cut up, and assistance with eating not provided (resident choked during mealtime). High rate of staff turnover. Staff do not contact activated healthcare POA consistently. Staff do not meet toileting needs of residents - often found in soiled clothing/ bedding. High number of incidents of falling, unknown causes of bruising....... With stories that do not add up. Staff forget to provide scheduled/ordered medications. Would NOT recommend putting someone you love in Betty's Harbor!!!!!
