When I arrived at Our House, there was no one there to greet me, so the kitchen staff took me around the building. They had all the residents out for bingo at the table so that was nice to see that they were actually doing an activity with them. The facility was clean and the staff was pleasant, but I guess I just wasnt that impressed with them, and it wasn't a facility I connected with. I had an appointment, but they weren't aware of anything. The cook was the one who answered the door and took me around, and the other staff member with him was another gentleman doing bingo. They only had one living area, and then there was a dining area shaped like an L. There was no nurse on staff there but there's one that would come in once a month. The person who gave the medication out was the cook who isn't licensed. I didn't feel like it was a safe enough establishment. As I was leaving, the cook mentioned to me that after you get to be there for a while, you'll learn that you could always come in the side door. He was basically saying that it was unlocked. My dad is a wanderer so that was a big red flag for me. It wasnt very professional. I have a friend whose mother was there, and she actually wandered away from the facility in the winter and walked a couple of miles to their neighborhood. She was spotted, ended up going to the hospital, and passed away two days later. I had hopes that maybe their facility had changed after that, and apparently, no, it didnt. It was a big negative for me. It may be great for those who aren't wanderers, but they didn't meet our needs.
