We visited McKinley Place. The staff was very professional and knowledgeable in their respective subjects, giving me information on pricing and type of rooms and what the facility has to offer for not only nursing care, but also for activities and entertainment and keeping their residents entertained and happy. The rooms were exceptionally clean. They are doing a lot of refurbishing out there. The hallways were clean. Everything was freshly painted. It's one story, so everything was nice and bright. The dining area looked very good and I asked a couple of the residents how their meals were, and they said they were very good. There was snow all around, so I wasn't able to see too much. They have the driveways cleared and the walkways all cleared, so they attend to the grounds. There were lots of people doing activities. There were two instructors doing some game. There were six people sitting around the table and they were laughing and having fun doing their games. There were several people reading and talking to each other about their books. They've got a nice little library there, a nice exercise area, and two lovely lounges where people can just come and talk with each other. They serve three meals a day and they have a full nursing staff there 24/7. They have good exercise, good entertainment, and a good activity center. I thought it was an excellent facility. Everything I saw was clean and very nice.

The staff turnover is high, therefore the quality of staff has slipped significantly during and after the Pandemic. The Executive Director hires last about 2 mos - so there is zero consistency in communication. No communication to caregivers or residents on the objectives and improvement actions. Severely understaffed for past 9-12 months - with seemingly no plan in sight to address it. (I/we get it - it’s a tough role to fill - but fill them you must)

My mother in law gets TERRIBLE service here. It's greatly understaffed. She is ignored as many of the residents are, when they call for help. She is missed from pick up at dinner time and states that the food selection is minimal at best ,and very unpalatable. For an Ozaukee County facility, and especially a CEDARBURG elder care home, this is unimaginable. Promises of more staff are just lies. The injuries lately are numerous. I would not recommend this place and would like my mother in law to leave.

What I loved about McKinley Place is I saw the senior citizens engaging with the staff. I also loved the layout, and the food looked amazing. I actually talked to the executive director because the community relations person was out of the office due to illness. I love the way the people interacted. I loved the way that the executive director had talked about the enrichment activities, specifically about the programs that he was doing with them. I loved how he was so caring with the adults, and I really liked the way that he was improving the facility for the residents. I really thought about how easy it was for the residents to get around, and I really loved that. During the tour, we saw the assisted living part of it. I felt like I met more employees and saw more of the day-to-day activities there. It seemed like an amazing location. I love the layout of the place because it seemed really, really easy for my mom to get around. My mom has difficulties and challenges getting around, and that's a concern for me.

My mother is in McKinley Place. The layout is good and wheelchair-accessible. Everything is on one level. The care is good, and it's nice and quiet. Everything's good. She has only been there for two to three weeks now. The staff is good. I'm just a little disappointed because they're shorthanded, but even with the shorthanded staff, they are doing pretty good. I haven't tried the food, but she doesn't have any complaints about it. They have a pretty good selection as far as the menu is concerned. If she doesn't like anything on the menu, they can pretty much alternate and make something that she likes. The rooms are decent-sized compared to where she was at previously. They are single rooms (not shared). They have multiple activities if she decided she wants to participate. They have a monthly schedule and most of the time during the week, they have some type of activity going on like sitting there watching a baseball game or doing bingo or other things. The upkeep of the facility is great. The dining area is good and it's nicely spaced out. One thing that I like about it, too, is that before I moved her in, they told me all the employees and the residents had been vaccinated except for one resident and the only reason why that person wasn't vaccinated was that person was going through chemo and they kept that person separate from everybody else. Compared to where she was in before, which was super expensive, the value for money at this facility is great. I can't complain about the level of care she's getting. They're kind of shorthanded, but everything I've seen so far has been pretty clean. I've seen residents participate in activities and they seemed pretty with it. The staff was super nice. I see that they do care because once you move a person from one place to another, it's gonna take time for them to adjust. It's an adjustment period for my mom. She has to get used to the staff and I see that she's making an effort and the staff is making an effort, and that helps me out and I don't have to stress out as much.

I toured McKinley Place Assisted Living Community for my mom. It was well maintained with great staff. It seemed to be a caring and bright facility. I would say overall, the rooms are satisfactory and well-maintained. I do think that they need new flooring and a fresh coat of paint, but that's minor aesthetic upgrades. I've seen some horrific places, and this would seem to be in very good shape. I was given a tour by Kari, the community liaison, and I thought she was excellent, well-informed, and personable. I know they have daily activities. The ones that we talked about were brain games and doing nail gardening. I know have several more, but I just haven't read the brochure. They had a weekly schedule of activities available.

McKinley Place is a clean, very light and airy facility. The rooms have nice sized windows, high ceilings and large bathrooms. Mom's laundry is done weekly and she uses the salon every other week. Kacie is so sweet and does a great job with her hair. Linda out front is FABULOUS. She has answers to everything and a quick smile for everyone. When I need to pick mom up for an appointment, the staff has her ready for me. They have a great variety of food which is well prepared and a beautiful fireplace in the spacious dining room. The staff there is always responsive and have treated mom with respect and kindness. Absolutely no complaints - it is wonderful knowing that she is well taken care of. We are there multiple times a week so we see different shifts and the real "goings on" at McKinley. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for an assisted living facility.

This place is beautiful! They just had a complete remodel and it is unlike any other facility I've ever seen! My mom is here and she absolutely loves the Activity Director, Karri. The care givers are amazing and attentive. They have a wonderful Salon that my mom is crazy about. She always looks good and the place smells great, too. I highly recommend!

Very nice experience. During tour management staff all took time to introduce themselves and chat a bit. Told they have all new management staff - seem very caring and compassionate. Also introduced to residents while touring, very friendly and welcoming as well. Outstanding activity program; activities from morning to evening. Bus for weekly outings, told it is handicap equipped. Impressed they have weekly live piano performances. It was explained remodeling is to start any day now with new carpeting, paint and light fixtures. Very impressed with my experience!

My mom is living at McKinley Place. The facility itself looks very nice, and that’s what caught our attention. This place seems like the best of all the places by far. By looks, it is rated like a 10 compared to the other ones. They have studio apartments and single-bedroom apartments. They are nice. They offered to let us borrow a piece of the bedroom furniture for a couple of months. They are very kind. They gave us like a bed, a nightstand, and a desk table. However, as far as the staff is concerned, we are having trouble with it. They have six levels of care at that place, and we are at level five. One of the things that we want is for them to take my mom to the toilet every two hours, but that is not happening; it can be three to four hours. Therefore, my mom has a problem with wetting. They have an awesome young man for activities. He has taken the adults to the theater, and he has brought in music people. They come in and play the piano. They have activities like that. They’re pretty good about activities, but they could improve on staffing. They should be more compassionate.

This place needs to be shut down. The staff (the few that there are) are great. But there aren't enough and they're extremely overworked. I've had numerous first hand experience with both sides of this building and it's a nightmare. The administration is incompetent and extremely unpleasant to work with. Do yourself a favor and find some place else.

VERY under-staffed!! Also, management seems to have a "we really don't care" attitude.
