I had a great experience at Dickson Hollow. It's a very nice place. I had a full tour. They've got very knowledgeable people, and I got to talk to a couple of the residents. It was a very positive tour. I saw an apartment in assisted living and it was very nice. It was a corner apartment, so it had a lot of space. The amenities were typical. They had a resident assistant and if there are issues with people, they certainly would help out dealing with it. It's secluded from independent living. They had their own dining room. They had a movie theater. I don't think there's anything probably much different than most places. You get a one or two-bedroom apartment. We looked at the one-bedroom apartment because that's all my mom needs, and it had plenty of space as far as I'm concerned. They have independent living, assisted living, and memory care.

Dickson Hollow would have been our first choice. They were very professional and very nice. It's very new and the apartments were very nice, but they were not as big as the other places I saw and it was expensive. However, they offered a lot more, as far as the facility went. For instance, they had a bistro where you could go outside of dinner hours, it's a Presbyterian community so they were attached to a church/worship center (which would have been an easy access), they had a movie theater, and a small market where you could buy a box of cereal or a candybar. The dining area was very nice. The independent residents shared the same dining room as the assisted living residents. So, there was more opportunity to socialize. The lady gave us a calendar of events that had a very full schedule. When we were there, they were having a Christmas sing along.

My mom moved into Dickson Hollow. It's good, but some of the R.A.'s are questionable. The activities are very good, it's outstanding, it's just that the lower-level staff is questionable at best, but I think everybody has issues with that. My mom's room is outstanding, and she likes the food very much.

Ask alot of questions. They offer alot of services but your loved one needs to ask for the services. Even if you pay for them. They need to be cognitive enough to ask for help dressing, in the bathroom and getting to activities. If they get lot they need to press their help button on the necklace for the gps to work on find them. Mom would sit in the room all day waiting for someone to take her to lunch or activity not understanding she had to push the button. Even after asking for help it takes 15 minutes to arrive and the head nurse stated that was their average response time. They accepted her with her memory issues. So Wrong. The good aids are bullied by the lazy ones. We saw them hiding in unoccupied rooms when we were looking for my Mother who went the wrong way to the elevator. Paid for escorts who never came.

Dickson Hollow was way too large. The place was just stories high. I was impressed with the large studio apartments. I also saw a one-bedroom apartment, but it was too far from the elevator. That wouldn't work for my brother because he has a hard time walking. That apartment was also very nice. The lady who took us through didn't seem to be well-informed. The layout of the facility was not as nice and was a little confusing. They had a lovely dining area. It was very nice, but again, it was way too big. They had a lovely menu, and they had two meals a day in their package. It seemed like you would pretty much be paying extra for just about everything. The room itself was more expensive to begin with, so I would not consider living there.

The Dickson Hollow had a first floor room available. My husband would be in another area of the building, but we would be closer together. I only looked at the two apartments that were available on the first floor. One of them had a sun room that led out to the patio, which was very nice. The other one had a walk-in closet with a master bed and bath. They were not too large, but they looked big enough and had plenty of storage. The place was very light and sunny. Everyone appeared to be happy. They had food services, a very nice chapel, and a theater.
