VMP Healthcare & Community Living seemed very clean, but it's more institutional. There's a main desk and then it's all corridors going off from there. The lobby area was not as welcoming. I saw the calendars of activities and they were on par with everybody else. They have music, arts and crafts and bingo. The rooms were smaller, more like a dormitory. There's a little more wear and tear on the building. The building itself was a little older or looked a little older. They don't have central air, and that was an issue. The staff was very kind, welcoming and knowledgeable. They can improve on building maintenance. The windows looked pretty old and they have in-window air-conditioners with pieces of wood holding them in place. It looked kind of sloppy.

Although it looks like a decent facility, there are a lot of issues from meds not being delivered on time to theft of residents. It always seems understaffed and trying to get direct answers from management on concerns is at best hit or miss
majorly disappointed

Re: VMP- in extreme need of updating. Paint peeling & falling off walls in private rooms. Staff using paper charts, nothing computerized. Left doesn't know what the right is doing. Have to repeat same situation(s) concern(s) to numerous people as staff doesn't follow through. Yes they have pull chains in the patients room however if chain pulled it is transmitted to a central location & that person will send a page to the unit the chain was pulled in.
If the staff in the unit is unaware the batteries in their pagers need replacing they have no idea someone is in need of help/assistance. There is a RN on duty 24/7 however 1 RN for 100 plus patients. There is a Nurse Practitioner staffed; there is not a MD staffed. Village of Manor Park is right there wanting there money every month; which is very expensive.
Re: Memory Care Unit - memory care unit is almost double the cost of assisted living area. Aids for this unit are wonderful but are in desperate need of additional staff, an appropriate sized dining room and there own cafeteria. Personal that take you on a tour prior to you moving in your loved one will show you this wonderful activity calendar; speak up all the amenities and such but all things do not apply to memory care unit. Activities are handled by an Activity Director and take place in the Assisted Living Atrium but obviously memory care patients cannot get there by themselves and there is not enough staff to take them there. BOTTOM LINE-- NO activities for memory care patients. The aids in the memory care unit are not skilled in holding activities for memory care patients nor should they be responsible for this and do not have the time or space to hold any activities. Basically memory care patients sit in their tiny rooms starring at the walls, watching TV if they are capable to turn it on and off or sleeping in a chair. Again on the tour one will will be shown this nice dining room and cafeteria HOWEVER there is no dining room or cafeteria for memory care patients. BOTTOM LINE food served to them via a cart that comes from Assisted Living cafeteria to a VERY small and extremely crowded room with a few tables. The safety issue is a huge concern in this tiny room with all the walkers & wheelchairs. I would be very surprised to learn the STATE would approve this if they were to see it. I would never recommend this facility to anyone.

Village at Manor Park was a big community and had all the facilities. My mom used to have her own apartment, and she also had rehab. I used to have lunch with my mom and the food was fine. I felt like I knew more about my mother than the caregivers there, they weren't totally up-to-speed on things. They have people that would volunteer to come in and play music for the residents, they also play Bingo and games like that.

Village at Manor Park was a neat, clean, and pretty facility. I saw the dining room, which had a grand piano in the dining room. They were playing music during lunch hour, and it was very nice.

Village at Manor Park catered to individuals that are recuperating from hospital visits and so forth. They also have long-term and short-term care. Very nice and very good staff. They had PT areas for the geriatric care as well.

A friend of mine will be moving to Village at Manor Park. The size of the place was large enough for her. She got a one bedroom and she like that. It's an older place and I think it could use some updating, but it's very clean. They were already re-doing the apartment. They were repainting it and she was getting I believe new carpeting.

My uncle reside at the Village on the vent unit for over 5 yrs......I know now why his body broke down and he had ulcers that were horrible, he was a tube-feeder and therefore required excellent mouth care, however he did not get it, when he died we saw his teeth and they were horrific. It is so unfortunate that we have such uncaring people who works in these types of placing. The majority of the staff does little as possible so forth as care is concern and some of the aids have the worst attitudes when you complain. They stopped getting my uncle up in a chair and he became bed ridden, there was a great director who was there but had left.....(some hispanic name) was very good and caring, but that and the unit has changed but for the worse. I guess in a way I am glad and relieved that my uncle is gone for he did not recieve the proper care. They took advantage of the Patient right to refused and would not brush his teeth, (which began to fall out) wash his hands and God's knows what esle. Unbelievable!!!!! Very Poor care on the Palmer Vent Unit.........
Dismaayed in Milwaukee

Village at Manor Park is a large facility on the southwest side of Milwaukee. It has many levels of care. There is independent senior living, assisted living and nursing home. I have blind cousin living in the assisted living center and is quarantined a bed in the nursing home when the time come.Bill, has a beautiful room overlooking the court yard which is can only see the light and the dark but says he enjoys the sounds of the people out there and being out there in good weather. The faculty is geared to his condition and has made accommodations for his needs such as making more things in Braille so he can get around more indecently. He says the meals are excellent and the staff is very pleasant and helpful. He had lived in the home for the blind most of his life but says that "The Village" is much better and he feels safer there. He attends a variety of activates including bingo where he has a Braille bingo card and also plays "sheep head" with other men using Braille playing cards. They have many holiday program music programs which Bill says are great. He is very happy and satisfied at the Village at Manor Park.
