I went and checked out Sherman Park Senior Living but they seem to be crowded right now. It's an independent living and it's very nice. It is convenient to a degree. It's just that when I went, it was packed and they didn't seem to have anything available at the time. The place was alright, the apartments were nice, very decent, and very orderly. The staff was very nice and I didn't have any problem with what they were saying or doing. The dining area was nice, it was great but I'm still independent to go shopping for my food and dietary needs so they didn't have to take me to their dining area. I'm still independent to work, get my food, and do a lot of things for myself. The residents were doing bingo and they had a nice workout area there. I liked that because that is something I would need to do. I have to work my body out.

I'm staying at Sherman Park, and I can say that I am not satisfied. I don't like the idea that since the pandemic, all the amenities have shut down, but my rent still increases. We have a movie room, an exercise room, a computer room, and a library where people could go and read. We had different parties where everybody would bring something; the whole community was just together. Now we go down with our masks on, and we're not supposed to speak to anybody, and nobody could go into any rooms. They don't really have a staff. They have one person who comes in two days a week -- that's Monday and Friday -- and she does the work and supposedly takes care of any malfunctions that you might need taken care of. I like that I have a washer and dryer in my apartment.

I guess the building was a school but I did go inside. You could tell that it was a school because the windows were some of the rooms were very high up. I don’t even know if that could have been part of the gym, but it wasn’t anything that I liked. It looked like it probably could be a very safe, secure place, but its kind of ugly to be a senior place. There are people living at Sherman Park; I guess it’s just depends on what you like. It also had a fence around, the playground kind of surrounded the building and this and that and no beautification. The staff was very great and very polite. One thing I did like was that they did have a library with movies; they actually did have like a little small theater. I guess basically what I am speaking about, what I didn’t like was the actual apartment because I like the said the windows were way up. If you have been in a gym in a school, the windows aren’t like at your level. The community room was fine, I only objected to the apartment. They did have washers and dryers -- which I did like -- and some parts were carpeted, I don’t necessarily like carpet myself, but they did have some bare wood floors and I like that. But my main objection is that the windows being so high up on the wall didn’t give me that homey feel. I wouldn’t say that I complained about everything else. I think maybe that they probably could have done a little bit more to make it look a little more homey. Obviously there are people that like it there because they were people live there. There’s nothing wrong with it except I just didn’t like those windows.
