My first impression of the facility is that it was clean and fairly well maintained. The doors were locked and had a key pad with a code for entry at the front. This was to make sure those patients with dementia and the like did not wander away. The facility seemed to be understaffed. I felt like our grandmother received good care from the staff members, but there did not seem to be enough staff members for the number of residents. The staff was very good about maintaining a hygienic and safe environment for our grandmother. She was an infection risk, so all staff and visitors had to wear masks when in contact with her. All staff complied, of course, and were extremely kind and gentle toward her when caring for her needs. The food was OK. Nothing to really write home about, but certainly edible. The facility was open to hosting events so that residents could be included in family functions. This was especially nice. We hosted a birthday party and a baby shower there and the staff was very accommodating. There were both single rooms and double rooms. Our grandmother had a single room, which she was allowed to fill with pictures and plants. Since she was often unable to go outside, the large window in her room allowed her to get plenty of sunlight and see the range of seasons outside. It seemed that the facility was constucted with this in mind. All the rooms were built on either side of a hallway, and all had windows to the outside in them. The facility also had a rehabilitation center in it. Our grandmother did not use this center, but I toured it and thought it looked to be fully equipped with treadmills, stairs, bars and all the other various equipment needed for helping residents regain mobility.
