I liked Brookdale Walla Walla. However, if somebody stays at Brookdale, they better be competent enough to know to stay away from the staircases because the staircases were open. If somebody takes an elevator upstairs and doesn't quite have all their faculties, they might end up going down the stairs. It's a small community, but it's not for somebody with compromised mental faculties unless they were restricted and could not go upstairs. I liked Brookdale a lot. I thought it was topnotch, but they had open staircases. I liked the staff and they have meetings with the residents where they discuss what's needed and what the problems are. They can submit ideas for improvement. The rooms were very nice, but they have typical squared-off corners, and I don't like to see square corners where the elderly or toddlers are because they tend to walk into them and you could fall on one. It's clean and beautiful. They had a separate place for ice cream, and the dining area was very nice.

No communication from Executive Director during the current pandenic. No updates, information, nothing. Residents have been instructed to stay in their rooms since March with no activities, exercise or any type of mental stimulation. The meals (which at one time were decent) have become a joke . Revolving door of employees. We were very happy with Brookdale when our relative moved in almost 2 years ago. Unfortunately we can no longer say that. The current Executive Director is way over her head and has an attitude.

Brookdale seemed very nice with a good mood and helpful staff. The schedule of events seemed very creative and rich, and the menu looked good. The décor was calming, and I liked the garden area; it was well laid out, and the landscaping felt very natural.

We went to visit someone at the Emeritus at Garrison Creek Lodge, but we haven't really toured the whole building. It seemed like a nice facility. We liked it. They had a big dining area, and the rooms were down the hallways. What was nice about it was that every room looked out onto a little gardening spot with little animals. She was in a studio apartment, and it was comfortable for her. She liked it. It was good for one person. It was kind of expensive though, so she did not stay there very long.

We visited Emeritus, and the one that showed us around was very amiable. We saw the rooms and some of their apartments. They had vegetarian food, and that was important to me, plus other menus that other people would like to have including meat.

Emeritus was nice but they turned me down. It was because I have a couple of open wounds on my foot and they said I couldn't go in there right now. They just said it was their policy and I can understand though. In the ALF, I looked at a room that wasn't even 9x10. It was too small. It didn't have enough room for my queen-size bed., although it was clean and it smelled fine. The dining room was fair. It was just big enough for their residents there, but the tables were placed close together. The food wasn't all that great as well. I also talked to the residents there and they were happy. The staff was very professional; however, they couldn't provide transportation service.
