My father stayed in the skilled nursing facility area of Fountains, and recovered from his CHF with the help of the terrific nursing staff, PTs and attendants. We weren’t sure what to expect but were very satisfied with the experience (3 week stay).

The Fountains at Washington House is a lovely and very vibrant community. The salesperson was very good and took the time to answer questions and concerns. I had a meal, and the food was good. The chef explained to us the vegetarian options available. The rooms were nice and spacious. It didn't have too much outdoor space, but it's in a residential neighborhood.

I liked The Fountains, it’s right in Alexandria where I’m from, and it had different levels of care. They had studio apartments, they had many activities, but they didn’t stress the intellectual angle and were more on gardening and cooking classes. They had free trips to shopping and theater in Washington DC. I didn’t like that you have to move to another apartment when your level of care changes. They have respite care, so they are often used for rehab -- or after significant illnesses -- for short stay.

The Fountains was fine. It was clean. They had about eight or nine floors. And fifth to ninth floor, I believed were regular apartments for senior. They had assisted living and a medical area for rehab people. They were a number of activities. They also had field trips. You had to pay $5,000 as down payment and then more so a month. The staff seemed very pleasant. When we were there, there were people wandering around all the time and they seemed to be enjoying themselves.
