Daytime nurses and care providers are the best people and try very hard to be attentive although they seem to be a little short staffed. The night and weekend shifts could care less about your loved one and will leave their patients to sit in excrement up to 9 hours. Sentara really needs to have an internal probe of this place.

My mother is there right now. I see them as understaffed and very slow to respond to requests for help to the bathroom. My mother deserves better. Where in Tidewater can we receive good care?

This was one of the most awful things I have ever let my mother be exposed to. She is 92 and went there briefly until I could get her out. She was left in her room in total darkness until I got there one day. Another day she was in a wheel chair at the nurses station and had soiled herself. I could never see a doctor or a nurse with any authority. They told me she "combative". 92, 110 pounds and weak....no way she was training for combat. Filled out menus and told them what she would not eat, and everything on her plate at every meal was something I told them she would not eat. I do not live in the area, but every time I went it there it was disgusting It reminded me of every horror story you hear. One day, I am sure they had drugged her not to have to deal with her.

This is not the best or the worst of nursing homes. For the most part nurses seem to be caring. CNAs especially on the night shift are often very slow to respond to a resident. My relative was bedridden and often felt neglected. Would not recommend for a Hospice patient.

I felt that the level of care was consistant with that of the care at the other facilities she had lived in, however, the care was not fantastic. Some of the nurses had a bad attitude towards the patients and they seemed to overmedicate most of their patients. There were too many patients and not enough nurses and, although my grandmother's health did not seem to deteriorate while she was there, there were definitely times when she needed more than she got. I felt like, when she became incontinent, they should have payed closer attention and help her change herself more often. I do have a great deal of respect for people who chose this line of work, particularly working with the dementia patients who have forgotten most of their friends and families. Not a super cheery atmosphere though.
