A upscale community that has wonderful food and such friendly staff. Variety of activities and nursing staff available at all times. Was able to get assurance that my loved one was getting the proper care at all times. Variety of different rooms to choose from and views. Love the balconies that you can visit with your whole family.

Beautiful community just minutes from the Chesapeake Bay! The staff are kind and welcoming, always willing to assist with a question. I would recommend anyone interested in retirement living to schedule a tour to see this community for yourself!

I am living at Bay Lake and it's gorgeous. They're understaffed, but they're wonderful people. They have all kinds of field trips out to lunch, to visit museums, and traveling to different locations. Indoors, we exercise and play trivia. They have a very good walking trail. The dining room is gorgeous.

Beautiful facility and exceptional service! From first impressions to one on one conversations with the residents, Bay Lake definitely is a fantastic community. The fine dining was a gourmet experience, the apartments were modern, the residents were active and the staff definitely goes above and beyond to offer exceptional service. Bay Lake also provides so many opportunities for residents to engage and socialize. This was very apparent as they have just opened thier new "RUI University" which offers continuing education experiences for residents and visitors! Definitely a must see community in your search for retirement options for loved ones.

I took a quick tour of Bay Lake recently because we are starting to do research for my Mom that lives out of state. I have been driving by this place for years but hadn't stopped by, and I'm glad I finally did. I walked in during the afternoon and saw residents in the lobby playing cards together, another laughing with the receptionist and I was able to have one of the staff take me on a tour. When we got upstairs, I saw the brand new classroom that they just renovated so they could host courses for the residents. We walked in on an art therapy course with a local artist that brought tons of painting supplies and the residents were having a blast, each using their own canvas. Residents seemed happy to be there and a few invited me to see their apartments, because the community is full and didn't have any open rooms. The apartments were very clean, and I met the sweetest housekeeper!! I left very encouraged because I didn't know what to expect. I hope we can get Mom to decide on Virginia Beach because I could see her enjoying Bay Lake. Thank you to everyone that I met on the visit.

I toured this facility without making an appointment. I have done the same at some other establishments during my quest to find the right place for my dad, and have found several of the staff seem miffed that I did not make an appointment. The tour guide I had at Bay Lake was Cameron, not only was he not annoyed about me just stopping in, he was exceptionally nice which made me think that he might have a lot of inventory. Surprisingly that was not the case, he just enjoyed his job and the community he was representing. I found the property and staff exceptional. The building has an old plantation feel and all the staff I encountered were smiling and friendly. I have not made a choice as of yet, but I will be bringing my dad by Bay Lake to get him to weigh in, since he will be the one living there.

The grounds and interior are gorgeous, the food and dining staff are wonderful, the activities staff is phenomenal, some of the charge nurses are extremely professional, caring, and communicative. Unfortunately the management team who took over in the fall of 2016 have seemingly changed the atmosphere to more of a business feel rather than any type of care facility. Within two months, much of the beloved care staff was gone, and was replaced by a staff who refers to residents by room number, who talks loudly and used profanity at the nurses desk, and who loses patience with residents. The care staff got increasingly irritated with my mother as her health declined. I am sure it was a case of they didn't know how to handle her/ they weren't qualified to care for her anymore, however, it manifested as impatience and irritation with her. My mother no longer felt safe. She lived there for over two years, and then I was told she had to move out because she was no longer eligible for Assisted Living, and that she had to go to a Nursing Home- which was inaccurate- she moved into a Memory Care Assisted Living facility where the staff is qualified to care for her. Bay Lake has a Memory Care wing, but I was not offered that option. I emphatically do not recommend this facility for anyone who has memory issues... or who declines in health during their residency there...which means I cannot recommend this facility to anyone. It used to be a beautiful, professional facility run with love and dignity. Not anymore.

Baylake Retirement was a very nice place. When I walked in, it felt very comfortable and cozy. The community was really, really active. Their accommodations were very pretty and well appointed. The rooms I saw were not very large and didn't take pets.

Bay Lake was a very nice facility with nice location about a quarter mile away from a facility where you could go swimming and do any kind of workout you want. It's almost walking distance. We did not eat there, but they had a nice dining room. The facilities were nice.

I went to Bay Lake for a visit, and it was very nice. I had known somebody that went there, and they were very satisfied. They did not associate medications at a later time, so I wasn’t interested in that. The staff were very nice, and their food looked good. Their activities were great, and everything was very nice.

We looked at Bay Lake Retirement and Assisted Living. It was right across the street of my neighborhood and the neighborhood that my parents lived in. I also had several people that I have known to be in there. It was clean, open, very well lit, and spacious. The people were very friendly and courteous. They were always willing to answer any of our questions. They had a nice variety of room sizes. The only thing that worries me was that if something bad happened, then they would take them to the hospital, and then they would have to go a nursing home. They couldn't stay there forever. However, it seemed very organized and had lots of activities. There was always something going on and had a wide variety of what to offer them. I would absolutely recommend it to others.

My father-in-law has been residing in Bay Lake since November of last year. They are very good to him. I think the management is taking action if someone doesn't do his or her duties. As a result, they do have adequate and knowledgable staff. They also have activities lined up everyday. I haven't tried eating there, but I think they provide healthy foods. I chose this community because it is closer to my home. I can even walk to the place. I also like the set up of the community. It is not cheap, but I know that they give him the best service and care. Bottomline is, I am happy where my father-in-law is right now.

The facility is beautifully decorated inside and out. All the rooms are furnished and everything is kept extremely clean and hygienic. The staff are all very friendly and seem genuinely caring. The only negative I would note is the quality of the food service provided. My aunt complained of the food often making her sick to her stomach when a particular chef is cooking. I asked the servers and they all told me that some of the residents would not eat a meal if it was cooked by a particular female chef who was said to never wash her hands. This food poisoning risk was a great concern to me and the management assured me they would renew all training on hand washing and food preparation.

The staff of Bay Lake Retirement and Assisted Living Community are absolutely wonderful. I obtained a position in California, forcing me to relocate with my sick mother. My mother requires comprehensive medical care and did not want to leave the state of Virginia, so I was left in a bind. Upon visiting Bay Lake Retirement and Assisted Living Community, I found myself relieved, they offered on site nurses, community activities and spacious living conditions. My mother was above and beyond pleased with the facility. I have referred many patients to the facility since the passing of my mother, yet I still keep in touch with the wonderful staff whom accompanied her in her last days.

A very close family friend of ours lives at Bay Lake Retirement Community right now. She lost her husband several years back and eventually was not able to manage living on her own anymore due to some medical problems. My mom and I helped her look at retirement facilities and we all loved Bay Lake. The residence itself is a beautiful colonial style building and the resident rooms are well decorated and comfortable. It is in a very nice neighborhood and has spacious grounds for the residents to enjoy. The staff was very welcoming, took the time to get to know us and answered all of our questions with patience and understanding. We even had a meal there on our visit to see what the food was like and it was fantastic. Bay Lake makes me want to retire now! Our friend is doing very well there and is still incredibly happy with her choice to move into Bay Lake. We visit her often and have experienced their high standard of care firsthand. I would recommend this facility to anyone looking for a beautiful, relaxing and caring place to retire.

I visit my aunt at Bay Lake every Saturday morning. Auntie used to drop off her niece and nephew at the school nearby in our younger days. We go down memory lane and talk about the excursions we took with the kids. Auntie likes the setting of Baylake near the ocean and her own private bathroom and kitchenette make her feel very comfortable. She can go in the kitchen and get her Yoplait yogurt and Dr. Pepper. That is her favorite snack. She goes to the beauty shop right there at Baylake and often asks me, What do you think? I am so happy that she is satisfied and looks great. There is even transportation at her new home so she can feel independent about going to some of her doctor's visits alone. She's got new neighbors and she eats with her new friends often. Finally, the happiest moment is that she has Skip, her dog, with her. Pets are allowed at this assisted living center. Auntie is happy and the whole family is happy because she and Skip are happy.
