Commonwealth Senior Living at Abingdon was a very nice place. My brother and I went there and checked it out, and then I took my mother by there a few weeks later, and she seemed to like it too. It looked like an excellent place. From my standpoint, I liked it because it has a lot of natural light and the grounds were really pretty that people who live there had access to. The facility itself looked excellent, but it is extremely expensive. Other than the cost, I don’t see any drawbacks. They seemed to have a lot of people working there, and the people interacted to the residents a lot in a pleasant manner. I was able to speak to some of the people who work there -- some had worked there for several years and they obviously liked working there.

Commonwealth Assisted Living at Abingdon was fine. The staff who assisted me during my visit was very good and really nice. While I was there, the residents were getting ready for their meals in the dining room.

My mother, Marcella, was admitted to your facility recently. The decision of having to move mom from my home to a facility was very emotionally upsetting for me. From the moment I was introduced to and was contacted by your facility, the Sales and Marketing Director could not have been kinder and more helpful. She came in one a Saturday, gave me a personal tour of the facility, explained the admission and policy procedures thoroughly, listened patiently to all of my concerns and questions and helped me make the transition run smoothly. She has continued to assist me and has also helped my friend, who is facing a situation and decisions similar to mine with her mother. I can’t express my appreciation and thanks.

As far as the care for my mother, the family as a whole, five of us are completely satisfied, one is a little protective of mother, but overall all the caretakers do a great job. The food is great, and they serve it on time. She gets her shares like she is supposed to. She has a great room with a good view and is clean. She likes it out there, and she is happy. She has three great friends. They eat and play bingo together. They got good activities. They keep plenty of things scheduled. The Commonwealth is by far the best. We are completely satisfied with them.

I walked the entire building without anyone helping me. The building was not friendly or welcoming.

My great grandmother was a resident at Westhaven. The facility is much better than many. The staff is nice and the place is very clean when compared to many other facilities. My great grandmother was known to be very hateful to the staff but they never treated her in an unkind way. They are very accommodating to the residents, there were some who could care for themselves without a problem and others who couldn't do anything on their own. Westhaven was also well decorated and lively. They have bingo nights and craft projects that everyone can take part in, and family members of the residents are even allowed to participate. Another great thing about Westhaven is that all of the residents rooms have windows, and being that they are in beautiful SW Virginia some of the views are amazing. It isn't uncommon to see rabbits frolicking on the property around the building

My Aunt was a resident there. When her power of attorney failed to pay her rent she was evicted. We were not told where she was or that she was being evicted. The facility had our name and phone #'s, but when the state interveined there was no record what so ever of that information. She has finally been located. I feel the home could have kept this information in her file or let us know even though we live in a different state. I understand HIPPA laws are to be enforced, but when it jeopordizes the welfare of the patient I call that an injustice to the elderly.
