About This Community

The Walter Reed Convalescent Rehabilitation Center is a nursing and rehabilitative care community located next to the Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, just off Highway 17 in Gloucester, Virginia. Seniors live in private or semiprivate rooms in a beautiful property surrounded by landscaped grounds, close to the Reedswood Christian Chuch and the amenities of Main Street.

The center is staffed 24 hours a day by RNs, LPNs and CNAs who provide support and care to residents. Seniors can take advantage of the center's well-equipped physiotherapy and rehabilitation rooms and the service of physiotherapists and other experts who work tirelessly to help residents regain their mobility and independence. Social workers, dieticians and speech therapists are also a part of the care team.

Meal service is provided and seniors are encouraged to take part in social events and activities throughout the day, including lottos, bingo, puzzles, games and group activities. Loved ones are encouraged to visit and can join some activities or simply relax in one of the peaceful and cozy private gathering areas.

I have been in this Nursing Home for approximately 8 months and this Nursing Home has very good nurses and aids but part of the facility is over 50 years and it needs to be repaired!! The Air Conditioner System needs to be placed!! I have complained about the Air Conditioner for about 3 times and they ignore my complaints and nothing takes place!! If they would replace the Air Conditioner I would give them a high average and if they remodel their part that is like 50 years old I would say their one of the good ones!!! Their is very good reactions with staff!! They need to replace the Air Conditioner and rebuild their old part called Ware unit!!!!!

I chose Walter Reed Convalescent & Rehab because they have a very good memory care system. We toured the place, everything came out really nice, and they had some very good people there. My mom is happy, healthy, and doing as well as can be expected in this community. There aren't very many amenities and activities since these people are quite far along in their dementia and their mental state doesn't allow for much. But they're kept clean, their rooms are neat, and the food is good. They're good about taking care of people. They feed them, make sure their diapers are changed, and the place doesn't smell. It's just a small unit, but there's quite a few nurses, so everybody kind of has their own person. When you walk around, the main door can't be opened unless it's from the outside, so it's very secure, plus they have ankle bracelets. The place is a nice brick building and it's well-heated and air-conditioned.

My mother-in-law needed a secured Alzheimer's unit, and Walter Reed Convalescent And Rehabilitation Center was all that was available so we chose them. The facility met her needs. I wouldn’t say it's the best or the worst; it's adequate. I would recommend them if a person needed the care that they offer.
