Greenspring was very nice. I loved it, and it's a great community. It's a big campus with beautiful rooms that are very modern. It has everything and every activity you can think of. They have a number of restaurants and a lot of dining options; it's very self-contained. They have their own store, a post office there, a fitness center, a swimming pool, and a gym. It's nice and big with nice walking pathways. I like it, I'm just not old enough for it. The apartments are expensive too, because there's a down payment. You have to buy into it. They have activities like movies, billiards, and every building on the campus has a club house with card and board games.

Greenspring looked nice and they give help and advice for the residents moving in. They have a theater and they always give you really good food, but the apartment were small. They spend a lot of money on marketing. They're always mailing things to you about their events. They must have a hundred different clubs that people can belong to once they move in there. It seems like it would be a very stimulating and fun place to live. The people seemed happy and very friendly. It looked like a good place and it had normal height ceilings.

My parents were in Greenspring Retirement Community. It is massive, bigger than any other place I've ever seen, and it has many multi-level buildings. It's like a small village. The residents are treated nicely, and the staff is considerate, but the fees are absolutely exorbitant. The décor is tasteful, but outdated, and the fixtures inside the room are old. They pay a total of $13,000 a month for the two apartments, and they charged my mom a $7,000 redecorating fee to go from one apartment to the other apartment. Literally, they just repainted a very small apartment, and they had to pay $90 for an aide to push my father in a wheelchair to the dining room and back. If we move my parents, the cancellation fee is $ 40,000. The food is good, very diverse, you can order meals to go, but you have to order it physically and come down and get them. There's a place you can go for painting, and near the dining room is a room where they have a pool table and card games. They used to do water aerobics, and my dad used to play Pickleball with a regular group of men and women.

I'm surprised that Greenspring has not been rated on this site. Greenspring is one of the finest independent and assisted care facilities in the DC area. My mother was reluctant to move from her townhouse, but thrived when she moved to Greenspring for the two years before her passing. The facilities, staff and food are top notch. I found the staff to be compassionate and caring. The community is not inexpensive, but is worth the cost. My wife and I are not yet ready to move to an independent living community, but when I am, Greenspring is on the top of the list.
