I could not be happier with the care my mother receives at Brightview Woodburn in Annandale, VA.
They keep me updated on her care and offer suggestions that are most helpful.
She has 24-hour care and assistance. At her age, this year 100, she needs a great deal of support and Brightview has more than provided that support.

My friend lives in Brightview Woodburn. I visit her every week. My dear friend has Alzheimer's, and she's in the memory care section. She seems somewhat satisfied. In general, it's clean and neat. The people who work there are approachable and they respond with requests.
I think the facility is somewhat new, like within the past 10 years. The spaces are light; there's a good amount of sunlight. There's nice exterior spaces, which are always pleasing. I mean, it's been too cold to go there these past couple of months. Along one of the main halls in the memory care wing, there are windows to a little veranda with what looks like comfortable seating. It's near the dining room, so that area is very sunny and bright. It looks like it's going to be a fun spot to be sitting outside with my friend.
Her room space is south I think. She gets a lot of sun throughout the day, which is very nice. I think that's important to us, a bright view when you first arrive. It's mostly the lobby and circulation space, and in the distance I can see a small sitting space. I really prefer when you arrive inside the community building that it feels like the residents get to be comfortable in all of the spaces in a community. I like to see that the residents get to enjoy the entire building since they're paying for it. The entire building should be their home where they get to if they want to lounge and read newspapers and magazines.
My friend sometimes has an opportunity to sit where there is live music, which is very pleasing. I came across one time when I visited, where there was a vocalist who was singing to the residents. I've heard music coming from other parts of the building. I think they have a lot of live music performances, which I think adds a real nice level of joy to the atmosphere of a home. I saw the residents eating, and the food looked appetizing.

Brightview Woodburn was very nice. I saw the memory care folks all eating together, and they had a beautiful patio. The staff member was very nice, and they're keeping in touch. They had a lot of activities, but they're not bringing anybody in from the outside at the moment. They had exercise programs. The dining room was wide open, beautiful, and looked like a restaurant.
