We were assured by Nathan that my mother would be cared for at Coronado. I’ve sat in her room, waiting for help, with the all important call button lit up. Only once in five times the button was pressed in the last three days did anyone come to assist. Right now, it’s 45 minutes and still no response. I finally decided not to wait any longer and made my way to the nurses station. A woman standing at the counter said the nurse wasn’t there and she didn’t know where she was. I waited a few minutes and that same woman said she would tell the nurse to come by my mothers room when she arrived. Not satisified that I would ever see the nurse in any reasonable timeframe, I asked the woman standing at the desk to tell me who the nurse supervisor was. She said she was. It’s amazing to me that the woman standing at the desk never offered to address my need herself. When The woman’s role as a nurse manager had been discovered, she then asked what I needed. I said a shower to which the nurse manager said there was a schedule that needed to be adhered to. Turns out the schedule indicated she should have been bathed already - and hadn’t. The care my mother is getting at Coronado is of no value.

Nice to look at but care is LESS than 1 star. Missed medications, ineffective therapy, dad received a shower maybe once a week and food not tasty or varied. Dad was slightly mobil when he arrived and is now bed bound on day 27. We are leaving today. My nephew, my husband and myself complained daily (when we could find someone) and all we got was lip service and often rude comments back. Do not place any loved ones at Coronado.

nice facility but my loved one went at age 88 after hospital visit from a fall. She was due to go home on day 15 and on day 14 we got a call she was tested and had coronavirus. Not good. Cannot get her to answer phone and no assistance to help. No visiting now either. She is asymptomatic.

To lived at this facility for 18 month after almost loosing my life. It was home to me and although I’m glad to be out I miss the place very much. The privacy of my own room was amazing. The gardens and activity centers were always clean and we had fun activities. The food was great and the care given to me while I was there was amazing! I still to this day try to keep in touch with some of my Coronado Family. You will all have a special place in my heart. Ms Campbell

We sent our mom to Coronado based on recommendations. During her stay, she declined physically due to lack of attention, and subsequently fell into a depression. We took her out on a Saturday and discovered the next day that she had COVID. Coronado didn’t test her when she arrived, nor when they discovered they had a COVID-infected patient, nor upon her release. When she developed a cough they claimed they did a chest x-ray , but they were unable to locate it. Not surprising. By now, the family was exposed and quarantined, causing us to miss work, change airline tickets, and stress over the possibility of getting the infection. Don’t let the shiny building fool you, and don’t put your loved ones in Coronado.

My loved one was here for one month. Could never speak with a nurse or PT staff to get an update. Left messages for nurses to call back and NEVER received a call back. Communication is less than acceptable. Phone is never answered after 5pm and only was answered once at 10:30 pm. The discharge papers were left BLANK, no notes listed not even the discharge date or time were completed. Was discharged with a medication that was not on discharge med list. Left messages in regards to this and NEVER received a call back. My loved has no mobility on the right side of his body and no one EVER communicated this with me. DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE HERE!

Do not be fooled by the beautiful appearance of this place. Staff is inattentive. Felt that many residents are just medicated and forgotten. It's a money machine. I took my mother home after only 4 days in this "beautiful" facility. Found my mother soiled and walked in to find her with her face in her plate. They missed getting her to her appointments after being assured that she would be transported. Look elsewhere.

What I like most about living at Coronado are my friends and my private room.

Because of my daughter’s severe condition, she has needed professional care for many years. She is now a resident of Coronado at Stone Oak and has resided there for a little over four months. I am totally impressed with this facility. The nurses involved with my daughters care are very professionabe and caring. Her room is large and has everything she could possible need. I can honestly say that my daughter has been blessed with the care that Coronado gives!

I went to Coronado at Stone Oak twice. It looked very clean, but it looked like a hospital with carpets. There were pretty pictures on the walls, but there wasn't anything to make it look pleasant or make someone actually want to live there. The staff was very nice, but extremely slow. You ring the bell and you have to wait 30 minutes or an hour to get somebody. They don't have enough staff on duty all the time. The food was terrible. They weren't as well-organized. They take people out to see a movie or go somewhere else on Wednesdays, but that's about it. There were a few little classes, but they don't advertise them very much.
Resident's Loved Ones
The facility is great, past services have been lacking but the new director is working diligently to employ higher
quality CNA's that are qualified and caring.
Overall client services are improving. Recent CNA's employed are of the highest quality and caring and giving excellent services. Several nurses are excellent.
Coronado is changing and improving thanks to the new
executive director.

It took 12 days to get positive results for a kidney infection from a urinalysis that was ordered by the resident Dr on her first day. She was complaining of lower abdominal pain and dizziness upon admission and was given a prescription for antibiotics on her 12th day of care. Her symptoms diminished after finishing the prescription. I've asked how it could take 11 or 12 days to get results from a urinalysis and was assured I would get an answer but have.not received a return call in six days.

Do not take any family members or friends to this facility! My grandmother was staying at this facility and while there complained to one of the nurses that she was seeing a bright light in one eye and could not see. The nurse told her to rinse out her eye and she would be right back in and never came back. My grandfather looked around for a nurse for hours and continued to call for her. After being told by the nurse several times that she would be right there finally someone came in six hours later! It turns out my grandmother had a blood clot behind her eye and is now blind in that eye. She was moved to a hospital to have oxygen pumped through her eye and was told by doctors that this method was most effective within the first 24hrs that it happens. Since some much time was wasted at this HORRIBLE center by the time she was transferred to the hospital it was already close to the end of 24hrs. The doctors are saying chances are slim in her getting her eye sight back!! This facility should be shut down and nurses license should be taken away. We will definitely be pursuing different avenues to make sure they don't treat other people this way!!!

Had my mother stay here she was very happy with the CNA's from 2-10 especially a big guy named Isreal. She still cant stop talking about him. But the management made empty promises. The building is beautiful but very understaffed they need more CNA's with good upbeat attitudes

Horrible rehab experience for our mother and family! This facility ty is severely understaffed. Aides spend a lot of time at the nurses station on their cell phone. Many are not properly trained to handle patients especially patients recovering from surgery. They lack sensitivity and compassion for seniors and treat them as worthless objects. Nurses were good for the most part but we rarely saw them except for dispensing of medications. Front office was disorganized and never available. This facility lacks communication in all aspects. The final blow was being sent home was being sent home with 15 blister packs of medications for another patient!

My mother was on the Rehab side of the facility. She was not suppose to go to the bathroom by herself but was forced to and had the fear of falling many times. The reason is because the nurses would not respond to the call buttons / lights and on many occasions when they did they would turn them off, stated they would be back but was a NO SHOW. Called again but no response. There was an accident twice due to this. Housekeeping picked up her clothes by mistake and they were discarded thrown away. We pursued and requested for payment on the clothes but now 3 months later they do not return phone calls yet did acknowledge that they were at fault. this is a Senior citizen with no income and now in the holiday time of the year. There customer skills need improvement .

Coronado at Stone Oak was a rehab hospital on one side and an assisted living facility on the other side. It was very costly to stay there. My mother spent six months on the rehab side, and the starting fee was over $6,000. There was a higher nurse-to-patient ratio, which was good because that had been my biggest concern. The facility was very clean. My mother's room was efficient. It was a one-person room, a single room. Mom is picky, but the food was fine. There was a menu.

Looks nice, but not a place to leave your loved ones. Unless you plan to stay with them. Administration is horrible. Won't take responsibility for anything, places blame on everyone else. Family member got a staff infection in their PICC line, can't prove it happened here, but saw some questionable practices when it came to care of the PICC line. In house doctors are almost worthless. Only there once a week and don't always talk to patient. RNs & CNAs do what they can, but have too many patients to oversee.

It's a beautiful place but the care is non-existent. I had my mother here and was excited when I toured the place because of the private room, private bath, plus it looks nearly new, but that's where everything falls apart. I was visiting my mom one day and decided to time how long it took for someone to answer her call light because we noticed they were not timely in responding. It was OVER 2 HOURS before someone came in. The worst part is she needed to use the bathroom! It's not the place to go if you want good care but it is pretty!
Top Notch Facility
Our experience at Coronado at Stone Oak has been nothing less than excellent. My 80 year old father had a first-of-its-kind heart valve surgery at University Hospital that left him very weak, unable to walk or even use the restroom. Once we knew he would needs some extensive post-surgical physical therapy, we began interviewing facilities all around San Antonio. When we reached Coronado, we were met by Jaime Soto who took the time to listen carefully to our needs and explain how Coronado's PT program works. We toured the facility and it was in much better condition that most others we had seen. He introduced us to the Executive Director, Boyd, and we also met some of the PT staff. After careful consideration, we chose Coronado based on the PT program and the overall feel of the facility.
On our first day, we had a meeting with the Manager for the PT program, the Head of Nursing and also other staff members. They carefully explained to my father the PT plan and also insured all of this nursing needs would be met. After having been in a hospital for several weeks, my father was very relieved at both the home like feel of Coronado and the professionalism of the staff. The PT staff did an excellent job working with my father. He was up and walking within a few days and even walking without a walker within a couple of weeks. Every time we visit my father he has a huge smile on his face and is excited to show us what he can do. He's even managed to gain back a few pounds and really loves the food at Coronado.
I cannot recommend Coronado highly enough. I read the other reviews and all I can say is go by and meet these folks. We have never met anyone at Coronado who didn't provide us or my father the absolute best care. Having seen most other facilities in San Antonio, I can honestly say we made the best choice coming to Coronado.

Absolutely beautiful facility. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. As a nurse myself, I was looking for a place that would fulfill my standards for my loved one. This place files the bill and then some.

Coronado at Stone Oak was very clean. They have very nice rooms. It is more like a hotel room than a nursing home. It had a refrigerator, a safe, and a microwave in the room. It has a bathroom. It is a single person room. The facility itself is nice. The staff varied widely depending on what shift it was. They seem to be under staffed. They did not always respond promptly to calls. Sometimes when my wife calls, I would wind up leaving the room to find someone to assist her. I know they did have activities, but she wasn't able to participate because she was bed bound. Some of the people there were professional and effective, and some of them were less so. The main thing that impressed me was the physical plants were very nice. But the staffing was a problem. First of all, their kitchen needs to respond and provide proper meals as required by their patients. There were a number of times she was served meat even though it is clear in her papers that she is a vegetarian. So the kitchen is a problem as well.
