Horrible experience! After the first day I was fighting to get my grandmother out of that place! She would actually beg me not to leave her because staff was so mean. Then ended up in the hospital due to severe dehydration and luckily while she was in the hospital got her transferred to an actual rehab.

Ashton Medical Lodge is new and looks really clean. The director who showed me around was very informative and extremely helpful, so I really liked that. She showed me the rehab site. She showed me the nursing home site, and she showed me the room; they looked clean.
The staff who gave the tour was excellent, and she had explained about the Medicaid application. They accept Medicaid. She said they would have a place there for my mom. She had recommended that we get mother approved for rehab in the interim, and she talked about their sister facility. We talked to my mother's family physician, and we were able to get her into the rehab facility on Medicare while awaiting Medicaid approval. This woman, Donna, was just very professional, very informative, very efficient, and very knowledgeable. Everything seems good to me.

First of all, I come from a hospital employee background, (Department Head) to be exact. I believe I know something about such related facilities operate and the obstacles they faced in attempting to maintain adequate care for residents. Don't think I do not look for this when we visit our daughter, a long-term resident at Ashton. Of course, there have been occasions when we have had to speak up about certain things and those things, upon consideration by administration have been acted upon and changes made. Overall, we find Ashton to be average and even above average in care and concern for residents. Ashton has had excellent administrative leadership and when such was not up to standard of Corporate, changes were made for the better. The staff at Ashton is more than willing to work with us in the care and concern for our daughter. We have found them to be more than cooperative in many matters. When COVID 'hit' the facility was diligent in maintaining a safe facility as much as they could, given the inadequate training and equipment to do so from the Federal Government. It was only a matter of time before COVID, via staff, made it into the facility and as we should all know, once the virus begins it works like a wild brush fire. However, with great diligence, Ashton staff have maintained and overcome the virus. Yes, our daughter did become infected but is now recovering, thanks to the diligence of the Ashton Staff. We are sick in our heats for those who died, but I want to say, it was not the fault of, or negligence of the staff at Ashton.

My husband is in Ashton Medical Lodge now. He went there two weeks ago and started recuperating really well. They have a wonderful rehab center. He is in a room with someone else, and they come in two or three times a day and keep it clean, make sure everything is picked up off the floor, and sweep. They don't have any dirty clothes laying around and take their clothes to the laundry. He can't have any extra salt, but they use herbs to season the food, which he really likes. There's a nice variety, too. The staff is wonderful.
