We have signed a contract last week with Mackenzie Place for my parents. I didn't choose them, they did. It is absolutely beautiful. It's like a luxury apartment. It's going to be smaller than what they have currently, but we're doing two rooms side by side, and then they offered to do a cut-through for us, so it's like a little apartment. One side is going to be the bedroom and the other side is going to be the living area. That way they have two bathrooms and two kitchenettes, which are nice because Mom can have her snacks and she's gluten-free, Dad can have his little snacks and he's diabetic and they won't get mixed up then.
The one thing that I really was impressed with is they have 24/7 staff there. There are medical techs on staff, and they provide medicine pass out. Their activities director is always engaging with them, and it's a lot smaller community, too. Where they're currently at, there's close to 150 people, and where they're going, it's like to 40 to 50, so there's a lot more one-on-one. I was really impressed with their staff.

Mackenzie Place was nice. They just didn't ask me the questions about my mother's condition, what type of extra care she might need, and the medications that she was on. Maybe it was just the situation because the girl that usually does it was out sick and somebody else had to come from a different facility to do the tour for me. The place was bright, cheerful, and the colors were great. They had a fridge, sink, and a microwave in the rooms.

My tour at Mackenzie Place was very, very nice, and they assisted me in every way that they could. We met with the director and he was very pleasant. The actual person who's in charge of giving tours of the place was not there at that time we stopped. But he showed us around and explained that we would need to speak with Crystal. I spoke with Crystal the very next morning, and she's just been amazing and very nice. He showed us around. The facility is very nice, and I'm really hopeful that we can get into that place. The rooms were very, very nice. They're not really large, but they have a beautiful facility, and there are a lot of things that my husband can do. He can get out of his room and do things if he wants. I can put a TV in there for him and even a telephone if I want. I think he'll be very comfortable there once he gets used to the idea. The dining room is very nice and very large, which is great for when they have bingo, play games, or have guests. There were some people playing, some people putting puzzles together, and some people just walking. I noticed that at least one of the guests there had a pet with her. She was sitting outside and she spoke to the director. Everything was very, very cordial, and they seemed to be a really nice facility. Everyone I met was extremely friendly. They had some water issues on one wing, but they were taking care of that and I didn't notice any problems. I also didn't notice any smell that you would normally associate with someplace that had water issues.

My dad has been in Mackenzie Place for a little over a year. It's excellent. He has severe aphasia and he has to have help doing pretty much everything, but he is still in a room by himself. It's like he is living on his own, but they have to help shower him and help do everything for him. The rooms are awesome and spacious. People in assisted living can do their own laundry, and they have a microwave in their room so they can cook a meal in their room. It looks like a small apartment, but it doesn't have a stove. They pretty much have everything they need.
The staff members are excellent. I've eaten there with my dad before this Covid, and the food was delicious. Most of them have TVs in their rooms, but they also have one in the small sitting area that they use to congregate. They have bible studies and all kinds of activities for them. Before all of these went on, there was one lady who had a small ice cream truck that would go around and give them ice cream on certain days. They have puzzles, games, craft activities, and things like that. My dad doesn't really do all of that because he doesn't like it, but he will go to bible study and listen.

The rooms at Mackenzie Place were good. They're bigger than the rooms at most of the other places, which makes them nice. They don't have a library, but they have an area where you can play puzzles, cards, and do art work or things like that. It's an older building, although it's not really old. It's just a small community, not like a hotel, and not like a group home either. It's not a house. It's a standalone building.

Mackenzie Place is pretty and comfortable, and my mother loves the food. She’s in physical therapy. The staff is friendly and very helpful. They serve three meals a day, and they have a van available for doctor’s appointments. She likes it there.

I visited Mackenzie Place. I thought they were accommodating, and the people looked happy. It was close to where my parents lived, so they were familiar with the area. The dining area looked OK.

Mother stayed at Mackenzie Place for a month, and that was kind of rundown, a small place, probably ran on a pretty tight budget, and it wasn't that great. It just wasn't as good a fit. The residents were basically not at her level. Under the circumstances, we had to do something quickly, and they were about the only one that I could get her in, so we used their furniture. It was a hodgepodge, and the bed was horrible. I didn't realize it at the time how bad her bed was. She woke up aching all the time. I ate there a lot, and the food wasn't bad; it was OK. The room was small; it was a studio room.

The building itself was like a big huge open square with wide and long halls. It wasn't very nice and the apartments weren't very big. Even though the accommodations would have been smaller, they were way more expensive.
