Holiday Ventura Place was very nice. Everybody was very friendly and very professional. They answered all our questions, but we pretty quickly established that because my sister needed more of an assisted living type setting, that it wouldn't be a fit for her. The dining room was very nice. They had a common space where they did some activities. They said they had art classes, games and crafts, and things like that. They were a little bit pushy, even though I told them that it really wasn't what we were looking for. The facility was well kept and clean. For somebody that just wanted assisted living, it would be fine. To me, there's nothing that could really improve. They just couldn't meet my sister's needs. She had back surgery a few years back and she has trouble putting her shoes on or getting her shoes tied. She needs some help with medications and somebody to just be available when she's in the bathroom showering and they just couldn't provide that. They suggested that we could call home health care to come in. That's kind of silly to call a home health care person to come in and tie my sister's shoes, maybe it's alright for medications and helping her in the mornings with shower. They basically said they cannot put hands on them at any time. They couldn't help her tie her shoes, and they couldn't help her get dressed.

My parents are currently at Ventura Place. It's an independent living and a lot larger. They have been there for 15 months now. It's a lovely community. I love it there. It's a lovely place, but they are in the process of going through some major changes because they were just purchased by another company. When we first moved in there, everything was wonderful. The food was great, the activities were abundant, and housekeeping was done every week; however, right now, they are running into staffing problems. In the long run, though, it's a lovely place, and I love that place. The staff that they have is wonderful; it's just they don't have enough of it as big as the facility is. I've tried their food, and it's wonderful. The food is fabulous. They have a chef there, and he is a wonderful cook. I have eaten there several times with my parents. The value for money is a 5. It is very reasonable to live there. It's like a luxury apartment, it's absolutely beautiful, and compared to everything that I have found in town, they are the most reasonable independent living. It's like a Hilton Hotel; it's beautiful.

Ventura Place was a lot more open. There were cottages, so you could have a lot more privacy and freedom to go outside. You could have your car, but they still offer free shuttles. So, you could still get transportation if you needed it around town. They had a gaming area where it had checkerboards set up and other games as well, nice exercising equipment with elliptical machines, a salon, and an elevator so it's very easy to get around in the main building. They put up a volleyball net while we were there and they had volleyball in the chairs with the residents and people who were just visiting. That was fun. They have facilities all over the United States which they showed on a board. You can go and stay at least two weeks at any of them and so you always have a place to stay. They were having lunch and they let us join in and order anything we wanted. They had at least five things that day and I think they changed their venue up daily. It was a three or four-course meal. There's a fish dish, sides, and desserts at the end. They had seasoned meatballs with a sauce that was over it and pork tenderloin with the gravy over it. It was delicious and had a lot of variety. The main guy there showed us everything and was very nice. He was the one who allowed us to sit down and try out the food. He gave explanations about the rooms and their sizes in great detail. He took the time to showing us all and it was very well done.

I went to look at Ventura Place. The man who took me for a tour was delightful, engaging, and polite. He was wonderful. The tour itself was perfect. He took me to three different locations in the complex, and I liked the two of them. The first one was a studio apartment, and I thought it was a little small. The one-bedroom was quite large. The third place was perfect. There is a separate bedroom and a living room kitchen combination. I liked it. It was a perfect size. The staff told me they had activities every single day, and you can join as many as you want. If you don't want to, at any given time, you can just stay in your apartment or go to the library. They have a lot of places where you can sit down, read a book, talk to people, and play cards. They have an Iron Chef there. It is an older facility. Some things look older, but they're not. The places that we went were like at the end of the hallway. I want something that's up at the front of the hallway, but that's just because of my preference. I was very favorably impressed. If it was just a bit cheaper, I would be happy.

Ventura Place is an independent living facility, so it suits our needs. My father would be able to keep his pet. It is a large community. It's a very welcoming and loving community. The staff members that we met were very friendly and very helpful. They were just very helpful, and they answered our questions. They listened to what our needs were, and they were met. The only thing that we were really interested in -- and that we saw -- because this is what my father was needing, was the dining room, and it was large. The facility was beautiful.

What's best for me about Ventura Place is that they don't have skilled nursing, but they have different levels of care. It's a good location. They have friendly staff. It's just a bit older and dated. Aesthetically, it's not like the other places. It's just a little bit dated, and their facilities haven't had the updates. The staff who gave the tour was very knowledgeable and very friendly. It doesn't have the upgrades compared to the other places we've visited, but there was nothing negative; nothing bad about the place. It's clean. It's located in an essential part of town, so it's easy for guests to get to. It's close to restaurants, shopping, grocery store, and not too far from the hospital.

We have chosen Ventura Place for my father. Our initial tour was very pleasant and very welcoming. There were a lot of activities going on. The current residents were very welcoming. The spacious hallways like being able to maneuver and get around, the living space, and the meals were attractive. The rooms and accommodations were more attractive than the others for my father's price range. They have a little kitchenette, which is just a sink, a little connection for a microwave, or a little toaster oven, and a small refrigerator, which for someone his age or his ability to cook for himself or whatever, is more suitable. The food was excellent. He loved it.

I thought Ventura Place was very nice. The lady introduced me to some residents we met in the hallway, and they said, "I love this place. It's great. You need to come here." I'm sure that they didn't have that planned because people were coming and going all the time. They also have a lot of things to do over there for the seniors to enjoy themselves. The lady was very nice and she did a good job. I wasn't very pleased with the apartment because it wasn't very big. It was a one-bedroom, and it seemed that the living area was smaller than the bedroom. Of course, that's not the one I'm going to be living in. She just showed it to me because it was on the ground floor. She said that they could put a doggie door in for my dog to go in and out, and my son could set a fence out in the back so that the dog could go out any time if he wanted to, which would be great for my dog and me.

My husband and I lived in Odessa and the same Holiday owns it. We were there nine-and-a-half years and my husband passed away a year ago this month and Ventura Place was like our second home. When I bring him to the doctors, we always stay at Ventura if they had a guestroom. I knew a lot of people by spending the nights in the guestroom when he had a doctor's appointment. This was the place that I chose to come because my daughter and her family live here in Lubbock and I have no family in Odessa. I was delighted to get a cottage here at Ventura Place. Holiday owns it like the one I lived in, in Odessa, so I'm very familiar with Holiday. They have an excellent staff here. I have been here since September. The staff and the employees are very caring and help anyone that has a question or needs extra service. I'm very pleased with the entire management and employees. The meals are excellent. I have known the executive chef for about seven or eight years, and he would come also to our place in Odessa and train some every once in a while. He's been here for about 19 or 20 years. I can't believe that we're able to have a chef that's been here that long, and that is very good. That's a record. He is excellent. His name is Rufus. Sometimes on the weekend, if he's off, the food is not as well thought of. I don't live in the building. It has cottages also along with the building and I live in one of the twenty-four cottages they have. Some cottages have one bedroom and one bath and a kitchen. I have two bedrooms, two baths, a kitchen, and a living and dining area. It's very comfortable. The back side faces the main street and the other side faces the beautiful building of Ventura Place. We are very fortunate we have a brand new activity director. She's been here probably less than a month and she already has an itinerary of different activities on the bus touring different places. This weekend, we're having a karaoke contest and we're having a program if anyone wants to dress up in the 50s and 60s costume. That will be Saturday, and everyone is so excited. She's brand new and she's really gung-ho about activities, so we're very fortunate to have her. I'm very happy here and I'm settled in, and I know several people and I'm very outgoing. I already know three-fourths of the people's names and they respond. It's a very good place for retirement. They're all prone to help each other and that's the main thing. They're very caring as a whole. I've been an ambassador for Holiday for many years. I help people. If they ask me to sit with them, I'll tell them about it. I help with the tours. That's what I've done many times and I enjoyed doing it. Sometimes, they're shorthanded and I think it helps to tell the people what we have to offer, washers and dryers and activities. I think that makes a big difference with the Holiday. I have enjoyed welcoming people and meeting them, and that makes them feel comfortable definitely. I have done it several times since I moved here and I did not get paid for that, but I volunteer. When they ask me, I'm available for that. I just love people. I always have been outgoing and I just have worked all my life with the public. I'm certainly not shy.

Ventura Place would have been my choice, but it was just too big for Mom. That place was excellent, and it was my pick, but it's just too overwhelming for my mother. The staff was awesome, it's a beautiful place, and the dining area was nice. I don't have any complaints about this place. It's not a good fit for my mother, but overall everything was great, including their facilities.

I enjoy Ventura Place. Everybody's really nice and the staff is good. I think they need to have more variety for food. It seems like it's the same thing day in and day out. There's hardly ever any beef, as it's all pork, chicken, or turkey, and everybody's getting tired of the same thing.

My sweet, elderly, widowed mother is very happy here. She loves making new friends and the staff is very nice to her. She says the food is always very good, especially the homemade bread. There is one recent hiccup though. Weekly apartment cleaning and linen change is paid for and supposed to be included. My mother’s apartment has NOT been cleaned in 3 weeks and her linens haven’t been changed in a month. Why? She did ask, and they told her they were short staffed or “ ran out of time”. This is not right, people and I’m very disappointed. HIRE MORE PEOPLE! DON’T BE CHEAP! It will hurt you in the long run. If this matter isn’t taken care of quickly, I will go higher. The place is starting to get an odor, and this is disgusting. Please take care and have pride in this place. It would be such a shame to watch it go downhill.

My mother-in-law is in Ventura Place. It's very nice and the people are very helpful. They were very accommodating. We're real happy with it. The lady that owns it built it like a cruise ship. Everything's in the middle. It's just a very nice facility. They have a pool table upstairs, they have a card table, and they have dominoes. Every morning, they slide the activity list underneath the door just like on a cruise ship, you just pick it up and you can read what is going on that day. They've got quite a few activities. The food there is really good.

Ventura Place's best feature is the nice dining facility which was sort of like a restaurant. I'm just not ready to be around a bunch of old folks. I was well-received there, chatted with for a period of time, and had a pretty thorough tour of the facility. The staff welcomed me pretty well. The rooms had a kitchen, a bedroom, and a living area, which was nice.

Jewelry was stolen, crystal was stolen and wallet was missing out of purse. Resident had passed away and room was suppose to be secured until immediate family could arrive from of out-of-town. There was absolutely no securing of room. All of office staff and cleaning staff had keys to room and therefore access to room. Also lots and lots of roaches!

The people at Ventura Place were really nice. It's an older facility but had a wide variety of different floor plans for rooms. They didn't have many activities. There was one general common area where people gather and visit, and they had games and puzzles. The rooms weren't that new or nice since it's an older facility.

Ventura Place was very clean and very nice. We were ready to move there, but we had some issues with my mother-in-law. Nevertheless, the rooms were very clean, very nice, and very accommodating, and the food was good.

My mother is settled at Ventura Place in Lubbock and very happy there. The meals are wonderful. The community is very nice. The managers are very supportive and reactive to any complaints or anything you need. There are a lot of activities, but she hasn’t joined in a lot of them yet; I think the longer she is here, the more she will. The atmosphere is really homey and doesn’t feel institutional. The rooms and common areas are clean, neat, and well-lit. They have activites, an on-site beauty salon and a library. The grounds are kept up well. The staff is very friendly and very nice.

I was very impressed with Ventura Place's dining room, the general living room areas' cleanliness, and with the facilities in general. I only saw the inside of one room, but I was very impressed with that as well. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. One day I was there and there was a program on because it was Memorial Day. They had musicians and speeches about the United States and the people who fought for this country and piano recitals. They had a library and a little chapel that's very small but there and available for ministers from different denominations to come in and have service there on the weekends. They have a shuttle bus available to the residents four and a half days a week to bring them to doctors' appointments, shopping, or places that they might like to go around the city of Lubbock.

I have several friends that are in Ventura Place, which is very near my home, so I am very familiar with the location. I like everything there. Everybody is nice and helpful. I have eaten several meals there, and the food is excellent. The main building has three floors and houses a lot of individual centers. They have a lot of things going on all the time. They have bus transportation for anything you want to use it for. As far as I am concerned, it is a top-notch. The only thing that is holding me back is that my son lives in Houston, and he prefers I come to Houston.

Ventura Place was very good. I really appreciated the attitude of the people who talked to me. They were friendly and helpful. I had lunch there, and it was very nice. I was impressed because it has a very positive atmosphere. It was homelike, but then it was a little bit like a hotel. It was clean and neat. I liked it.

I have been here at Ventura for about a month now, and I like the looks of it on the outside; it’s nice. We have a little balcony, and I’ve got one room; other people can get 2-bedrooms and 2-baths, but it costs a lot. There are also little cottages around it. The staff is very nice, I have one meal a day, and they have bingo and dominos for their activities.

The management is horrible. The management is rude to residents and guest. My Mom's apartment was not cleaned in weeks, and then when we were moving her out, they went into her apartment and threw things away before we were completely moved. We still had 3weeks to complete the move. Probably $500.00 worth of fencing was gone, her perfumes, make-up, hairspray, cleaning supplies, etc. The management told me not to use the trash cans in the laundry room because they didn't want to take the trash to the dumpster.

We used to have a friend who lived in Ventura Place. All they had was an efficiency, which would be fine but could accommodate a queen-sized bed, a chest, a bedside table, and a comfortable chair. The kitchen is a typical size, and the bathroom is a typical size. I like the ground floor, but I thought it was just too small. It was $1600 a month, and it seemed to me that it was kind of high for a small, small space. They serve meals. They don't put cloths on the tables anymore for meals, which I guess is fine. We made an appointment, went over there, and talked to the manager, his wife, and the assistant manager. His apartment was more like a 2-room hotel suite. It didn't bother me, but it got out right across to the dining room. The reason I wanted to live there is it's very close to our daughter, who's looking for a way to move down there. They have cottages. I think it fit most of my net income.

I've been to Ventura Place several times. I have two acquaintances who are living there. Everybody who has interviewed me and talked with me has been very pleasant, very nice. I can't say enough in favor of it. It would be definitely my place to choose when I'm ready to go. They have the 1-bedroom or studio and the 2-bedroom, and then they have cottages. They have card games, and they have the health room with the machines that you can work out on. They take buses for activities away from there.
