I toured River Point of Kerrville and I liked the outside of it a lot. It was very open and pretty. I liked the management and their activities. When I was there one day, it was evening time on Friday, and they were getting ready to have wine. I thought that was nice. They had a salon and a courtyard, too. In fact, some of the rooms were right in the courtyard. It was really nice. I wish they would have more shade and more trees to sit under outside.
We're moving my uncle to River Point of Kerrville in July. I've also been there twice to visit; one time with him. He is a vet, so the distance between the place and the VA hospital was very short. Also, the access to the food court and the grocery store was less than a mile away; the location is why we chose it for him. I have a place in Kerrville too, and the location of this is very easy for me because I don't have to drive across town, since it's on my side of town.
He's going to be in their assisted living with medical management. They actually cater to my time and my schedule to come in. Instead of me having to be there during the weekday, they actually came in on a weekend to walk me through.
I saw a full menu and got a list of the menus for the month, so we could see what was offered. They will also make his menu personalized for him. They said the place has an RN 24/7.
My mom will move to River Point of Kerrville. They met us at the door, greeted us, and were very friendly and welcoming when we walked in. It's clean, and the residents there looked happy. All the staff members were very nice and we got a really good tour of the facility. The rooms were all nice that they showed us, and the grounds were well-kept. Everything was in order and the staff was professional. You could tell that it was managed very well. So that's why we chose them. Rachel is the marketing manager or director of the facility, she was awesome. She called me and said "Hey, we got your information. We know you're coming in, we look forward to seeing you." And she followed up, and sent me a bunch of information, and a brochure online for my visit. My mom can transition into the memory care side, and I'd feel very comfortable with that. It was still very nice, the people were in good shape, and the staff was professional. I would have no problems keeping my mom there and just transitioning her into the memory care there at River Point. They asked us to stay for lunch but we couldn't. The rooms have a little kitchenette with a microwave and a small refrigerator. But they're not those little under-the-counter ones, they're full size, but they're just smaller. They have the freezer up above and the refrigerator below, so it's a decent-sized refrigerator. They had a big, spacious, back-covered patio that goes out onto a lawn that has a gazebo. And then it looks out over the Guadalupe River, which is pretty. And then they had another little courtyard, kind of a square, off of some of the rooms where you could walk out. People have little patios if you want a patio.
My dad has been in River Point of Kerrville for over a month now. Everything has been great, and everybody that we've interacted with has been really good. He's comfortable in his apartment, which was one of the reasons we went with River Point. It had a little bit larger apartment than the other facilities did. It makes it feel more like an actual apartment, not like a hotel room or a hospital room. The food is good, and he hasn't complained about it.
My dad moved into River Point of Kerrville and he says it feels like home. The food is great and the people are exceptionally nice, every single one of them. He has an apartment with a microwave in the kitchen area, and the next room is his bedroom then the bathroom. The bathroom is really nice and big for him especially since he's in a wheelchair. There are two varieties in terms of accommodations. It's either just one big room, or they'd separate the living area, the kitchen and then the bedroom. They have activities every single day, like they had painting and although my dad didn't want to go, they dragged him down there. Then they video taped everybody and the family got a video of it, and he was laughing and smiling, it was awesome. They also have bingo, they go to the museum which is across the street, they take the residents out to eat. They always have some activities to keep them interactive. And they have a few sitting areas that are really nice where you can visit, they have a garden with a gazebo, and a wonderful sidewalk that goes all the way around. Because this community is by the river. Plus their price is not expensive. They have high ceilings with many windows which are from floor to ceiling, there are trees and it's so open. My dad is in a wheelchair but they have really flat carpet and they vacuumed and cleaned every day. They don't take Medicaid.
My dad moved into River Point of Kerrville. I chose it because I personally walked through there before when my mom was alive, and I was very impressed with the staff, the whole ambience, and the place itself. I was thoroughly impressed. The experience is excellent. Their staff members are excellent. They're kind, courteous, and extremely helpful. The place is outstanding. With all that they do, I would rate the value for money a five.
