My husband is at Pate Rehabilitation Center, and they are housing him and working toward rehabbing him. They are unbelievably wonderful. The staff members are proactive. They are caring beyond caring, and they are just absolutely wonderful. If they see something that he needs, they are very proactive about getting it done. For instance, his toenails are really thick, and I've been unable to clip him. They had a spa day at the facility this past weekend and saw that he needed a podiatrist to do his nails. They made an appointment, reached out to me, told me what had gone on, and said, "We'd like to make an appointment with the podiatrist to get his nails done," and I said "Yes, please do it." They are just wonderful. He's in a shared room, and he's comfortable. It's a bed and the basics, with a bathroom nearby. They have a common area, where he goes with the rest of the residents. It provides a safe place for him to sleep, and a safe place for him to be. They feed him. They give him his meds at night, and then get him ready for rehab the next day. The food is really tasty. I don't know how healthy it is, but it's very good. They cook fresh food. I noticed they had brisket (and for a heart patient that's not the best meat to have), but he ate it and loved it. The cooking is great. It's delicious. They are a little bit limited as to what they can do with the residents. They are all in wheelchairs. They just published a calendar where they're gonna start taking them outdoors for picnics and start doing things. The most important thing for families to know is that there are places out there like Pate that will evaluate your loved one. Pate does something different with regard to rehab. They don't judge a patient by today's capabilities. They judge a patient by future capabilities, and what they believe they are gonna be able to do for that patient. I think that's really important.
