Deerbrook Nursing Home was OK. It was just a little bit further away, and the facility looked a little older. I also felt that the person I talked to wasn't that welcoming and that turned me off. It was still a nice place.

Deerbrook Skilled Nursing And Rehabilitation was very helpful in providing all the information we requested and they answered all our questions. They have limitations on the visits and what they can show due to COVID but everything they showed us was good. We're going to see the rooms when we come back because they only showed those in a video. We saw the video and everything in the room looks pretty good to go.
They have a courtyard, they took us outside and they looked pretty good. They have a secure area and they have somebody to be with the residents.
It's well maintained, they have a pretty good setup and a pretty good discipline in the community. The cafeteria is pretty clean, they provide all the meals and everything looks good.

Stay invovled in your loved one's care daily. There are some excellent employees who care for the patients but it is not the norm.

Patient said the food was never up to temperature. Cold food. Had to bring food that was edible. Smelled in the building. They would not launder clothes. Just gave a bag of dirty smelly clothes when we left. Had to insist on some clean clothes when leaving. Took a shower. The pillow in wheelchair was nasty dirty. Head nurse was a Nurse Rackett. Personality issues about power and control. Left for a holistic complete care that concerns the patients and physicians.

Our mother has been in this facility for almost 4yrs and up until a couple of months we've been mostly happy with Deerbrook. they've changed administrators and it has gone down hill rapidly. Our mother was dropped (we know this because the surgeon that is doing surgery said that there was no way she fell out of her wheelchair at 10am in the morning!! (which is Deerbrook's explanation about the incident) Her hip was broken and she was left unattended for 7 HOURS. My sister got there at almost 5pm and found her bruised and soaked in urine. When she went to change her diaper, my mother screamed in pain and that's when we found out that her hip was broken. If someone had attended to her during the seven hours (from 10am to 5pm) they would have found the same thing. My sister is the first in the lineup of contacts and they never called her about the incident. Gross negligence!! We've reported the incident to the State Department and there will be an investigation.

My sister is in this facility and I am very disappointed in the quality of care. Staff has a large turn around making it difficult for residents to establish any relationship with providers of care. There have been 3 incidences when she was given the wrong medication and several incidences when she missed maintenance medications because "they were out " of meds she takes every day. She has had several falls resulting in in bruising and once
had a black eye. She constantly has difficulty withdrawing funds from her account and is told "no one has been to the bank" or her account is empty, which is never true. She has personal belongings taken regularly so we can no longer bring her things of value to keep in her room.
Reporting this to administration never results in a positive for her.

When my brother was in Deerbrook Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center, he tried to escape. They did have a system wherein they provided their residents with a bracelet around their wrist that a bell would go off if they tried to go out the door, but my brother was smart enough to wait until a visitor would go out and he went behind them so the bell wouldn't go off. They found him in the parking lot. Obviously he was trying to send a message to me, he wanted out of there. I don't think they have enough nurses for their patients that they have so that they wouldn't be running into these kinds of problems. I also think they're inadequate in their service.

My mother has been there several times. It's real good and the doctor she likes and sees is over there. They would send her there for rehab from the hospital. We like that they're attentive to her needs and that her doctor services her there. We're happy that it's clean and homey. We are able to go in and out as we please.
