My parents are currently at University Place Nursing Center. This is a transitional place so you have your monthly fee for the rent, but you can have certain levels of assistance, kind of like a la carte. So, for an additional charge they could help you with getting dressed, getting out of bed, or taking a shower. So they do assist with some activities of daily living, but it is just based on needs, like on your request. The apartment itself, they upgraded it at my parents' request as far as taking out all the carpet and putting in hard floor, like vinyl wood flooring and appliances in the kitchen. The one bathroom is full handicapped accessible, you can wheel a wheelchair directly into the shower. The whole bathroom is just one big white area, and so the toilet and the shower are together, and the other bathroom is more normal with a regular walk-in shower. They did an excellent job. The rest of the facility is very clean. They have their registration when a guest comes in, and they take everybody's temperature, and everybody has to wear a mask. You are required, as a guest, to be checked every day. It is good security. Their apartment's beautiful. They have a balcony and it has two French doors that open out to the balcony and you can wheel a wheelchair out there. It is very nice, and I was very happy with that. The staff is very attentive. They come every morning because they're delivering food. Because of COVID their community dining room is not operating, so they deliver meals during the day. They're very attentive and very quick to respond to any request. The food is good, I was surprised. It's fresh and so very little canned or anything like that. I was very surprised, and I was very happy with the quality of the food. I saw in the elevator the notices that they will take them shopping. They have a couple of vans who will take a group to the drugstore or they'll take them places for people who don't have transportation.

I liked University Place Senior Living. It was really nice, but I think my mother would be uncomfortable there. The staff was nice, the room was nice, and the yard was really nice. They had a high-end shopping center. The ladies always had makeup on, we saw art classes, they had an exercise room, and the dining area was really nice. If you don't want to eat there there's a kitchen with a stove in your room.

I was at University Place Senior Living, affiliated with Memorial Hospital Southwest. It was fine. I took my meals to my apartment or I just cooked myself. Their activities were not so good and there weren't very many. We made some animals and dolls, but if the management said that wasn't enough, the staff member would bring all of her bags for jewelry making and different things, but she would never go forward with it, so you were stuck with making the same things. They were extremely friendly. The first time I went down to have a meal, people ran over to me and helped me. The food was good. The building was about 25 years old, and they kept everything up. They changed the carpets when necessary and painted. They did a good job in trying to keep up a building that was a little bit older. On the same piece of land was the Houston Baptist University and a swimming pool, which was free to anybody that lived in University Place. They had a sauna and provided the towel. It was a lot more economical than some of the other places.

I was impressed by the people at University Place. The buy-in wasn’t too bad, but the average age was 85, which was too old. They provided two meals a day and had laundry services on the floor. They had an exercise room but also offered free membership to an exercise club at the Baptist University. I liked it. The staff was very good and very informative.

University Place is a wonderful place for my father. The people there were very kind and attentive. It is better care that you're going to get at than any other place.
