I had a very positive impression of The Wesleyan at Estrella Assisted Living and Memory Care. They have a large room for the memory care which is called 'Laura Hall'. Instead of having the word 'memory' in there, you have "Laura Hall". They have a large room where they have tables for activities like puzzles. There's an aquarium and on the other side were the tables are for meals.The rooms were off of that, so they were not down the hall. They actually almost surrounded the main area, so I kind of like that idea. My aunt doesn't have to go down a long hall to get to the dining room. They also have a lower resident to worker ratio and among all the facilities I called. They're the only one that had an availability, so we could take my aunt in. I was there at the time when they were serving meals, and they looked very appetizing. The lady that helped me was the RN and the director of nursing. She seems very nice and friendly. Her father is a resident of the assisted living area, and that's a positive thing that she has her own father there. She thinks well enough of them to do that. She was very helpful, nice, and seemed to know several of the residents (so that's a good thing). They do have a small courtyard off of the 'Laura Hall' where they have nice, big, sturdy chairs. It's very level area out there. They have a white board that has some activities that they listed on it.

The Wesleyan in Georgetown was a nice facility. The rooms were small though. There were a lot of amenities, but my husband is a little bit concerned about the layout because my sister-in-law might get lost or be overwhelmed by it. It's very clean, and they have quite a few amenities and activities there.

The Wesleyan at Estrella was fine. They had folks that would come in to do Christmas music, they had an area out in the waiting room where they had puzzles and things of that nature. I think the administrative staff is very good, but the nursing aide staff needs a little work on their training. The meal I had there was not all that great. I understand they're in the middle of switching their chefs. They have an outside garden, but they don't have anything like a movie room.

I liked everybody at Wesleyan at Estrella. They had a lot of activities. They had a reading room and a music room. It was beautiful, and it was like the Taj Majal of assisted living homes. However, it was a two-story building. She could get lost if she were placed upstairs. It was open to the public and strangers could come in. There were more people in the apartments. They had all the amenities, and they had pendants that they kept around their necks.

The Wesleyan at Estrella was run by the Methodist Church. It has 180 units and has assisted living, memory and independent living. My mother had a nice greeting with the administrator; she was very accommodating. They have exercises, and people were engaged in the activities; some were doing sewing, puzzling, cards, and dominos. Everybody was out and about; that was kind of impressive. The room has bedrooms with a private bath and shower, and it was one of the beautiful rooms. But they are kind of pricey too. It was absolutely stunning.

We chose to visit Wesleyan at Estrella because we were looking for a continuing care situation. They have the independent living, the assisted living and they're building a nursing facility. We were really impressed with the staff. They were very helpful. They have one- and two-bedroom apartments that are very nice sized. Also, they just have gotten the grant to double the number of apartments. We were able to look at the floor plan. They have a coffee bar that is available 24 hours a day. The meals are buffet, but if you don't feel like the buffet, you just tell the waiter that day and they will bring you a plate to your dining table. They have a theater with scheduled movies but you can reserve a movie time any time the theater is not being used.I thought it was nice that you could have your own private showing with your family. They have a walking trail, a lake where you can fish, and a golf putting green. What I like best about this community is that they have a group made up of residents who have a say in decisions. They have a resident board that they elect. The staff would pretty well accommodate whatever they want.

We almost used The Wesleyan for respite. We even had worked with them on setting up a respite care for my mom. Their staff was very good to work with actually. However, at the last minute, we had to cancel. Nevertheless, their rooms seemed really nice. The environment was very good. With regards to activities, they would take their residents out and they have structured games for them. What stands out for me with this facility is their staff and how flexible and cooperative they are. I would recommend this facility especially if they are looking for respite care.
