The heartbeat of Mercer Place is our caring staff and homelike senior living community. We develop individual care plans to meet the needs of each resident, and a full-time registered nurse is available 24 hours a day to provide clinical oversight and coordination of care. I would dissuade someone from admitting a loved one to this place. The facility is a bit run down, older, rooms are small, very, very overpriced; they do not address issues, but become hostile.

Mercer Place was close to where we live, but the monthly charges were very high, and the facility was fairly old. It was kind of in need of some work, and the rooms were not all that large. It would've been one of our last choices. It's been in existence for at least 20 years. It didn't seem (to us) like the level of care that Mom would be getting was going to be as good as the others that we had seen. The price-per-month for the rent and the assistance was quite high. It really was out of our price range. The staff that walked us through was fine. They were nice and they followed up on the visit. They were pleasant. There was just not a lot they could do other than show us the facility, which is not a real large facility, and they only really had one available room that we could use. There wasn't a lot to choose from. The entire facility needs to be updated.

Mercer Place was OK, but they were quite a bit higher than what we ended up paying at the other place. The room was not big, but it was OK. I think they have a full kitchen, a refrigerator, and a microwave. The staffers that accommodated me were friendly and knowledgeable. I also talked to the chefs, and they had some things that we liked. The only thing that kept us from going there was the price.

Mercer Place was excellent. They're very friendly, and the residents were smiling. It's clean. It was a little over my budget, so I wouldn't have chosen them for that reason, but other than that, I really liked it. They had activities, and they had an exercise room. Everything was good. The facility was a little bit old, but it was clean.

It has really been good. My mom loves the people; she likes being at Mercer Place, being on her own because she has her own apartment, so she really likes it. The staff is not always available when you need them, but you can always contact them by phone, whereas in some places you cannot, which is really nice. They have two medical people on-staff, they deliver their medicines to their individual apartments -- they don't let them come to get it. It is a very small facility, which is what she likes. It has different levels of care. It's not like once you've reached a certain level, you have to move somewhere else; they take care of all of them. The only problem that my mother has is that the food lacks a little, and that is probably because it is smaller so they have to cook in smaller quantities. That is the only thing she complains about -- that the food is not what she is used to eating sometimes. And sometimes it is really good, but I think it is because when you are fixing for that many people, sometimes you get something that is seasoned for someone that cannot have a lot of seasoning or things like that.

We chose Mercer Place for my grandmother because of the location, the price, and the friendly staff. They seem to care about the patients living there. They have bingo, arts, and crafts.
